Post Pictures Taken With Your Note 9

Looks like the sun could be strong in the photo. Doe the problems you've noticed happen under all lighting conditions?

I’d say 80% of the time yes, when comparing to my current phone (iPhone X) the photos always look washed out and over exposed from both cameras. Occasionally it gets it right but it’s the majority of times. My friend also bought the Note at the same time as me and his is the same. The selfie camera is next to useless (from my perspective) and I have to spend so much time trying to get the right shot with the rear camera I end up giving up.

I just tested it on a display model on a mobile phone store and it’s exactly the same on that as well *

Took this one in pro mode with default settings. The lighting wasn't best since it was after sunset. And with the ride in motion there is some blur.

Determined to eventually master the camera settings and learn more about photography though.

I'm not a photographer by any description, just a point and shoot picture taker. But to be able to capture these crazy fast little buggers just amazes me. I'm sure most of you that post here could have gotten better shots but these make me happy.





and to be able to do this on the phone from a set of burst photos with just a couple of taps is fun too. Does lose some quality in the process though...

Did you take three burst photos by holding down the button? And then how did you get the photo that combines those three to show?

Yes I did hold the button to get the burst shots. It takes them so fast I had 26 before I let up. Then open in gallery and tap the burst image, it’ll open and show the number of images collected in the burst shot overlayed on the image. Tap the image again and it opens the image and displays all the burst shots along the bottom. Hit the three dot menu button upper right of screen and select create Gif and it does the rest. Save it to your gallery when your done.

Good job.
Just a little constructive suggestion (from the eye of a photographer ), if you had focused on the flower (circled in red), which you can do by touching the screen before you make the photo, and also had centered a little more to the right (to get less bush and a little more walkway, just a little more to the right), you would have, IMHO, a fantastic photo. But, none the less, great job. You knew what you wanted.

I've also done comparisons between the Samsung and the iPhone X.

For the front camera, I have to agree. The Samsung images look too soft (e.g. beard details) and when there is light behind you (not only a bright sun but even a small indoor light) it is handled really badly and it gets blown out. Colours also appear more washed out. The iPhone front camera is a lot better. The Samsung front camera basically hasn't changed since the Galaxy S8. I hope they will upgrade it on the S10.

For the rear camera, since the S9 I also find the images often too soft. There is also aggressive noise reduction algorithms wiping some details (but the images have no noise at all which is quite impressive). Images are often over exposed and look really bright in daylight. This improves pictures at night, but in day light it looks a bit weird if you're not used to it. However overall most pictures are still quite good if you get used to that look.

However, I'm not sure I prefer the iPhone X pics. The iPhone X is absolutely useless at night, resulting in dark noisy images with hardly any details (take a picture on your Note9 at night and one with your iPhone X and you will see the difference is massive). I would say it's one of the worst flagships for low light photos. Even when the light is OK, it's extremely bad at focusing and details are washed out:
