Post pictures taken with your second generation Moto X here

I don't want to admit it, but you're likely right. Unfortunately, plan B was the new Nexus, and now that it's out, it's just too big for my taste.

Xperia Z3 Compact is a distant second choice as well, but I really dislike Sony's skin, light though it may be.

I hate to say it, but I may go back to the iPhone, as much as I don't really want to.

I'd give the Z3 a chance. Took me a while to get used to Sony's skin but once I had I was very happy with it. And they've made a great phone without any real weakness. Battery is excellent, camera is ace (although my last phone was a htc one m7 that was purple in anything but broad daylight) and I actually really like the design now (my first thoughts were it was just a plain rectangle of glass). But hey, I'm sure a switch to iPhone will be fine too.

Wong's walk off homer in game 2 of the NLCS

I just held it down and ended up with about 10 pictures and that was probably the best one, the rest were rather blurry (OIS would have been nice).

Here are a few that I've taken in the first few days of having this phone. I'd say the camera ranges from "pretty nice photo" , to "why did you take that pic with the front facing camera of a blackberry storm?"
I picked up one of the only moto xs in central ohio and a G3 for the wife and haven't decided which one I want more. 9 days left until I lose my return.

I've been pleasantly surprised with the camera thus far. But then, my last smartphone (Motorola Electrify M) was just the worst.

This inevitably lags behind the APS-C and full-frame cameras I also use, but less so than I was expecting. I'd go so far as to say it performs better than the point & shoots I used to use all the time.

A/Bing the standard app against Google Camera resulted in a draw for me. I usually stick with the standard app since I really love that quick launch feature. I hear the new Lollipop OS will have a whole different camera protocol that might allow manual focus and RAW - maybe there'll eventually be some groovy apps to make the most of that.

In the meantime, I find myself surprisingly satisfied.

The examples attached here were all run through Lightroom on my iMac. Adjustments with the phone - even with Photoshop Touch - don't seem to come out as well. I notice that shadow details can often be recovered somewhat - highlights, not so much.

Some pics from my weekend with the family in Chicago. Some of them turned out gorgeous! Loving this camera over my old M7 so far...

No filters, and I turned off the auto awesome.

Very nice photos. How about posting a before and an after editing photo to judge just how much is camera and how much is post processing?

Sure, why not? Here's the original rendering for the portrait, the version edited in-camera and the Lightroom export. (Surely, someone can eventually pack this caliber of processing into a Droid app?)

Landscape Test: Moto X 2nd Gen vs Canon EOS-M

The Moto X camera has been doing so decently this last week - particularly with landscapes, I was beginning to wonder if I can justify hanging on to my old casual compact, the Canon EOS-M. Here's the Moto X:

And here's the EOS-M.

The detail isn't too far off (at least not until you start pixel peeping). The colors & tonality seem like two completely different worlds. The sensor on the Canon APS-C, same as the "Rebel" DSLRs - many, many times the size of the smartphone sensor.

Oh, well. I didn't get the Moto X to expand my landscape photography portfolio. :p

I'm actually a bit surprised at some of the results I've been getting in low light without flash:

The key I find is to shoot in bursts. The shutter speed is fairly slow but out of 10 shots in a burst, 1 or 2 are likely to to have the camera and the subject nice and still. (Kind of a poor man's optical stabilization.) Focus is surprisingly reliable.

I think the grain, colors and overall tonality leave a bit to be desired, but overall not too bad for a phone cam. I might even use some of these for promo!
