I wonder if all sites get the same amount of backhaul. Someone posted they talked to a Clear installing a site on top of his condo and they said 100Mbps backhaul. Wonder if all sites get that. Probably not I'd suspect.

I am sure they do. Metro Fiber is usually used to deliver to the distribution points. Ethernet delivery is much cheaper in metro areas than any other type of handoff. I am pretty sure that clear is dropping 100mb metro ether to their feed locations.

According to this, most of Clearwire's microwave backhaul is 30-40Mbps. Apparently their landline-based backhaul is 100Mbps or more. Someone posted pics in another thread showing 100Mbps backhaul that a Clear guy was installing on a condo building in downtown KC.

Surprisingly low

Yesterday I ran two test in Bel Air, MD. According to Sprint's coverage maps I was in an "inside building" coverage area (dark blue on the map) vs. an "outside" (light blue) area.

In Hunt Valley MD using speedtest app outside (these are best numbers I have seen in three weeks of having the phone) -

PrinceMike, scaots, try Speakeasy - Speed Test instead of the Android apps. The phone apps don't test 4G very well using most servers.

I got 4.80 MBPS/5.32 MBPS down and .70 MBPS/1.2 MBPS (I tried twice) in Alexandria, VA (though I don't have the 4g network according to Sprint)

On 4g I got 5-6 down and .5-1 up in Chicago using the Speedtest app.

^I can't get very good performance with the speedtest app, only with speakeasy.net/speedtest. I wonder if it depends on server with speedtest app. I've tried a dozen and can't get over 2Mbps. With Speakeasy, I get up to 7Mbps.

neither can i, but when i tether to my laptop , the webpage speedtest works fine.

A lot of people are still saying they only get <2Mbps for 4G on Android speed tests in various posts. Don't use them! See post 1 of this thread. There are very serious issues with the many speed test apps/sites on 4G. Not sure why but see first post...

Must be the applicaton on your device.
I can run Speed Test on 3G, 4G and WiFi at the office and get significantly different numbers on each. For me Speed Test, with 2 bars on 4G is around 3.5 to 5Mbs down and 1 up.
So i know the program its self is working just fine.

4G Testing

I gave up on any of the testing apps. I use a system monitor app that shows bandwidth usage. Tether using PDAnet and then go to Youtube . Select a HD video and choose 720 or 1080p. This shows actual bandwidth that you can use. I had peaks of 10 MB/s or more but it was dependent on the time of day. I will post screen captures later. The interesting thing is that sites such as netflix that use "feelers" don't choose HD even though there is plenty of BW available. Youtube lets you select regardless of your bandwidth. I am trying to find a way to help netflix realize that there is plenty of HD BW. Does anyone have a suggestion? Sometimes if I pause netflix and let it buffer it will allow HD, but this has not been very repeatable.
