I'm really not sure. Do you have suggestions? The Nexus S appeals to me for its pure-Android promise. Some of the recent HTCs look nice, too.

My wife has her heart set on the Xperia Play, but that's certainly not the device for me. I'm a tinkerer, but not a gamer. So raw processing power is secondary, so long as I can render a webpage reasonably quick. And for what it's worth, I'll probably play with developing my own apps in my free time.

How are these themes in this thread created? I really, really like the idea of user-created themes (if indeed that's what beings shown). Ah, so much to learn

I'm partial to Samsung, so to me you can't go wrong with any of their newer devices coming out. The Nexus looks to be one heck of a device. A lot of folks love everything HTC does, so those are definitely worth looking at too. Regardless, you have a lot of choices, which is cool, so there's bound to be something that fits you.

The themes used by a lot of folks are done after rooting their devices, but there are plenty of customization options without rooting. I am not rooted, and still can't stop redesigning the look and feel of my phone almost on a daily basis! Again, so many choices are offered with Android, it makes for lots of fun.

If you're talking to me it's called jorte. Great for customizing, but pretty hard to figure out how exactly. Love that you can get like 7 different widget displays, and it comes in a ton of different sizes.
