Power Button and Volume down button both stopped working, anyone else experience this?

Both my power and volume down are also not working. I was told by Samsung I would have to hard key reset my phone. They gave me step by step instructions on how to do that, the instructions included using my power button 7 times knowing that it was not working. They then told me I would have to send it in. I held down my power key and volume down key for about 10 seconds together and now all of a sudden they are both working again. That was after being angry and trying to get Samsung to figure it out for me for almost 24 hours.

This and the SD card notification issue really are a stain on an otherwise great phone. I understand nothing will be perfect, but you'd think a huge company like Samsung wouldn't have such ridiculous issues as these.

Just happened to me while at work. My recent changes:

- Enabled Samsung Pay 2 days ago
- Modified Samsung pay setting to be available on lock screen only and requires my fingerprint.
- Carrier is T-Mobile
- Received OTA update 2-3 days ago
- SD card is installed (200GB)

I created an account just to thank you! I had the exact same issue, and my volume down/power buttons weren't working, I appreciate your comment!

Same thing just happened to me on my S7 Edge, AT&T. I was playing Sudoku and had just connected the phone to the power cable. I held both buttons down (power and lower volume) and the phone restarted and now it works.

glad it's working for u guys, hopefully it doesn't happen again for you guys it hasn't happened again for me and my s7 has been awesome

I pre-ordered my Galaxy S7 through AT&T and received it 2 days before the retail store launch. This happened to me today for the first time. I hope this is a fluke that will not continue. Thank you for posting this.

So, the other day, my power button also stopped working. However, my volume buttons were fine. What was worrisome, though, was that pressing power and volume down did absolutely nothing. For a second I feared that it may be a hardware issue, since for everyone else at least they could reboot it, but my power button wasn't working at all!

Fortunately, there is a way around this.

If you're coming here because you can't reboot it, I found the solution. Go to SettingsBackup and resetAuto Restart, and set that. Let your screen go dark and at the set time, your phone will reboot automatically.

After that, everything was working perfectly. Not sure what the problem was, but it's been working perfectly since.

It seems to me to be a software issue as I factory reset the phone and the problem cleared up. However, it just happened to me again after a day of not installing anything new and it is definitely frustrating. Maybe we can all compare apps to see if we can narrow down the culprit.

Things I've used today:
Camera
Truedialer
Nova
Samsung Pay
Textra
Clash Royale (Last thing i was doing before the malfuciton.)

Interesting lol. I bought my s7 edge a week ago and I had experienced the volume down key/power button problem a few days later. I went to the store and traded for a new s7 edge. 2 days later the same problem happened but I realized it happened as soon as I had left the clash royale app lol.

Don't know what caused the problem, but holding down the two faulty buttons (power, volume down) restarted my phone and resolved the issue.

Just thought I'd post an update. I've yet to have this happen again once I soft reset my phone (by holding power and volume down) and unless you are getting this bug often, I don't see it as a problem to worry about as it looks to have sorted itself out :)

yeah same no more issues for me after the one hiccup

So this also happened to me during the first week owning (got on 3/7) and all has been ok until tonight, the issue repeated again for the first time. Hesitant to try and warranty at this point but ugh! Has anyone else had this happen more than once yet?

Today was the first time its happened but it happened to me again tonight. The second time I saw my volume suddenly go down to vibrate, then both buttons stopped working. Holding both buttons to reboot is the only fix.

I just had this issue and I've had this phone for a few weeks. Like all of you guys I'm not sure what caused it. I'm just glad I was able to reset it to make it operate again.

Only changes I made was install some Amazon app and some apps the other day.

Before the power button failed to respond, I did notice my S7 Edge was getting sluggish in responding to things.

This happened to me yesterday for the second time in about a month (the first time it happened was when I originally posted). I rebooted the phone and everything seems fine now.

I have a hunch that this is related to Samsung Pay. It seems like just about everyone who comes across this issue has Samsung pay activated and the only change that I made to the phone within the last few days before the first time this happened to me was activating Samsung Pay.

I've had my phone for about a week now (normal s7) and had this happen this morning. Power button wouldn't turn on screen/do anything and volume down wouldn't do anything. Had to use the home button to get the screen to respond. After holding down the power button and volume down I was able to reset the phone and the issue is no longer present. Should I just assume this was some kind of software hiccup or should I go the route of trying to get it replaced for being defective? I've seen a few posts on reddit and some other forums, seems like an issue that is starting to pop up for quite a few people. Any help would be awesome. Thanks guys. :)

Mine just did the same thing after about 2 weeks. Thankfully I found this article. I am going to tweet this article at John Legere and see if I can get him to raise hell with Samsung for a patch. This is pure horse puckey for a $700+ flagship device.

Same thing just happened to me, 2 days old phone. Was using messenger then screen froze, buttons not working and screen went completely black.
Power button not responding even after holding, also charger doesn't do anything.

Fix was power button + volume down button. Then it restarted.
I really hope it's just software issue.
