Power Button Sunk In

Hey Guys,

New member here! I just picked up the T-mobile version of this great phone and noticed that the power button on the top is almost flush with the edge of the phone on the right and raised only about 1/2 a mm on the left. That means I have to very very deliberate when I want to turn on the phone by using the tips of my finger to push down on the button.

I noticed that the dummy was raised about 1mm all the way around. I went to Bestbuy today and the working demo also looks to be raised about 1 mm or so all around. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm afraid that when I put a case on it, I might even have a harder time to hit the power button.

Mine is the same. Mostly flush with the left side of the button barely lipping over the edge. I kinda like it, though... I'm using the Otterbox Commuter case and the power button cutout is open enough to give you full access to for functionality.

Thanks for the quick reply! I guess it's nice so you don't hit it by accident. But I feel it can be annoying when you try to power up the phone with one had. I had a Samsung GS3 and the button was raised about 2mm on the right and it was easy as pie to hit it.

Yep, mine is like that too. I think it's due to the curve of the phone at the top? Or maybe mine is slightly defective. Who knows. Here's a photo:

Thanks, Red! The pic is very helpful. So I take it that one side of your power button is literally flush with the top of the phone as well? I'm asking to see if I need to take mine back to T-mobile tomorrow. I appreciate your help.

Hmm. The right side of the power button definitely seems like it's more "sunken in" than the left, but I don't know if I would call it "flush" with the case body. Let me take another pic and post...

Ok, so looking at the photo in this post, it definitely seems like you're supposed to have a "straight" power button. The weird thing is that if I take a photo of my phone from that angle, they look about similar:

But then, if you look at the phone from a different angle, it's really obvious that one side sticks up more from the case than the other:

So I'm not sure what's "correct" anymore!

Thanks derande. I appreciate your input. I guess I'm just coming from the premise that the button should be equally level all the way around. As the right side is sunk in almost flush, it makes it harder for my to turn on/off the phone with my right index finger.

Thanks for you pics. Mine looks exactly like yours. So it's either a design fault, rushed assembly, or simply a slight lack of attention to detail. I still feel that the button should be raised the SAME amount all the way around for function's sake. But I thank you for posting all those pics. Otherwise, the phone is a dream come true compared to my SGS3.

Also, thanks for the link back to the other member's pic. That's what it SHOULD look like and I did find some real demo units that is perfect. I am afraid that over time it will sink in more. So I am still debating as to whether I should exchange it out. Watch me get on with dead pixels:-X

Hmmm. Thanks for you feedback. Now I am beginning to wonder if I should maybe take mine back. To be honest, I'm noticing that I need to push deeper to activate the power button especially if I am trying to do it with my right index finger and only catch the right edge that is almost flush with the surface. But I worry that early production batches may be all the same. That would really stink if I get another one that is the same. I did pay full retail for the phone so I hope T-mobile would let me exchange or, worse case, return without penalty. This really sucks. The One is otherwise the best Android phone I have ever used.

I currently have two ONE's (one is going back to Sprint), and both have the on button almost flush on the right. They have a little play in them, I can press it on the left and it lifts the right side. Seems like it's normal to me.

I would just go to the store and see if they have any units that don't have that "flaw." Truthfully for me, because of how the case fits on the phone, I only tend to use the left side of the power button anyway. (Plus, I'm not sure if any of the stores near me even have the phone in stock). I suppose I could call TMo and ask them for a replacement unit. I'm not sure how that works, as I've never had to ask for one. Hmm.

Mine is more "straight", but it does have tiny amount of "play" (when you press on one end - the other end slightly raise and stays this way). If it really bothers you - just change the phone, that's what the warranty is for.

Yes, mine is like that too. There is a bit of "play," but it seems like eventually the default resting position is the one shown in the photos I posted above.

I've decided to go for a swap at the local store that carries it. It does bother me and I will not enjoy it as much. If they are out, then I'll just return and buy it again at a later time. I appreciate all the feedback. I'm sure HTC will fix these early production issues. I guess it's the price we pay to be an early adopter.

I have a very similar issue.
My power button sits straight, but it sits almost flush with the housing.
I am almost positive this should be sitting at least 2mm above the housing so you can get proper contact and tactile feel. And if it was meant to sit almost flush, this is a serious design flaw and shame on HTC.

I'm taking mine back to futureshop and getting it replaced. This is the second problem I have had with this stupid phone (that i love... ). My first unit had a hair line fracture on the rear camera lens. Now I have this issue. It's really annoying. The quality of this phone is definitely shotty.

Hey guys i may have found your issue! On my one the button sits generally flat, no leaning to one side and going flush with the casing. BUT if i touch the right side of the button, it will go askew to the rifht and the same with the left. So it just seems to be a loose button that wobbles

Mine is literally flush. As in, not raised at all. Going back to exchange it now.
