Power Off - Screen Does a Jarring Blink?

Got an odd question; not sure if its a design or issue.

When I hit my side power off button on the Nexus 5, the screen doesn't fade off like other phones. Instead, the screen pans down from the top and up from the bottom until the two dark halves meet in the middle, with a relatively bright flash before blinking off. Is this what others see as well?

If I let it go 30 seconds to power down, it dims first but results in a similar effect, albeit with a more modest blink because the screen is dimmer.

I haven't received mine yet, but I'm guessing its just like what my Galaxy Nexus does...its their way of being "cute" with the screen off. Meant to emulate an old TV turning off (without the annoying sound).

This is normal, it is supposed to be like turning off a CRT TV. Pretty sure that every Nexus device since Gingerbread did this.

I never liked that my Epic 4g Touch never had this feature... Sadly it was one of the main reasons I went to a custom ROM

Well my Nexus 5 is currently sitting on my doorstep awaiting my arrival, so I have not witnessed this first hand (yet).

I downloaded that, but I can't see how to remove the default behavior. This app does its animation, then the screen blink like normal. Am I missing something?
