Pre-loaded apps?

I'm a total newbie at this. I've ordered the Nook Color and while waiting for it to arrive, I'm reading about how to root the device. I understand that the NC comes with some pre-loaded apps and my question is whether I should do a backup of the apps before rooting or do I not have to bother as I will be able to get them back from the Android app market for free after rooting?

If I do have to do a backup, how could I do it so that I could restore them after rooting?

The preloaded apps are not in the market, at least not in the same form.
