Truth. Its a security measure as well. Hell for the iCrap launches we got the phones two days before and had overnight security to make sure no one broke in lol. VZW has trust issues.

I know some of the stores around me don't even get the phones until launch day. verizon doesn't want a phone to be sold early like happened with best buy a few years back, so that is why they are the way they are. They would not have them in stores a week ahead to just sit there and not be able to sell them.

Spoke with the Costco wireless guy in the store and he said they'll have the Galaxy Nexus in on the 9th. An accessory bundle includes dock, battery, and car charger, though he's not positive and doesn't know for how much it will cost bundled with the phone.

Unfortunately I'm going on vacation that day and probably won't be able to pick it up for a week! :'(

just called my local vzw store to confirm any of this their response:

We have no idea of release date but are fairly certain that it is imminent as we have and are going to continue receiving accessories for the Gnex.

Also, not sure if this is individual store policy but they are not able to hold phones for customers, first come first serve basis.

It appears that some stores are willing to talk and some aren't. Luckily when I called the two stores, the store manager answered and they both seemed more than willing to give me information on it. They wouldn't let me come in an prepay but he actually offered holding one for me and took my name and number.

Its first come first serve, if they only have 5 and there are 5 people paying in the store before you get there they are selling it all regardless.

Only way to officially hold one is if there was an official pre order online

Not true. A store in my area held a phone for people when no official preorder was happening.

How can there be so many different rules and answers from all of these stores? Especially if they are corporate stores? I can see getting a different answer from one of those kiosks in the mall, but it's really lame how they all have different answers and policies apparently. Kinda frustrating.

I'm either going to a store when it opens on launch day or preordering online, whichever comes first.

Well will see Friday I guess. But then again ill be there first thing so.
Only way I could see this if the demand wasn't so high at the store at the moment or they have one for everybody.
Or some stores are just nice.
I hate dealing with the store close to my place because they told me I couldn't exchange a phone that wasn't 14 day old and i could sit there and argue and they wouldn't do it but I called a store an hour away and tthey gave it to me no problem.
So I'm guessing it depends from store to store.

The thing is that if 1 verizon corp store gets it and can sell it all will get it and be able to sell it. I think what people are saying is true and most of the stores will either get stock tomorrow or tues and then would know. Verizon usually does not send the phones to stores way in advance and I know the stores around me get it the day before usually.

Yes turned away 2 people and had a bunch behind the desk labeled with peoples names on them..
