When I was overseas, I just popped in a sim and got on their network...Its not as simple in the US?

What's flashing involve?

It's more complicated than that, and boost would have to do it. Once they do it you can never use it on sprint again.

From what I've read, the Photon is unlocked so you can use non-domestic SIM cards. You can't just pop in a SIM card from the US unfortunately. I believe you would have to flash a ROM, this is after you root your phone and unlock the bootloader.
