Pre to Evo Users.. how is experience?

Your gonna love it.

The UI is much quicker than the Pre, rebooting is incomparable. But then again the Pre doesn't compare to anything in that.

There's a lot of market spam with Android too, plenty of "perry girl photos".
I created a few themes for the Pre and I find that it goes much deeper. You can spend days just setting up home screens Android a well as the different launchers.

I am considering making a move from the Pre to Evo or maybe just adding another line to my plan to get the EVO.

I cant imagine leaving WebOS and the active community of preware

1)Do you regret your decision to leave pre for the Evo?

2)What are some of the major improvements with evo compared to pre?

3) what are some of the major problems with evo compared to pre?

4)Andriod vs WebOS? Who wins and why?

5)How is the Google Voice app..I heard google andriod phones run Google voice as good as if its a second line on your phone. I used my google voice line for a work based voicemail and being about to answer it on my cell in a smooth fashion(without having to hit 1 to accept everytime) would be great!

Thanks all!

1) I do not regret the decision at all. I've managed to find replacements for all my favorite apps with only one exception and that is the MusicRemix! I really really miss the music remix. The only saving grace is that iSyncr, which is a syncing app that not only syncs your songs and playlists with iTunes, it also syncs the playcounts and the same Dev also has a ratings widget, so you can sync your ratings as well.

2) Speed, even with my pre overclocked with the 800mhz patch the Evo is a way way faster. Oh and restarting the phone is less than a minute vs. 5+ minutes on the pre. Also, Screen size. It's a downright pleasure surfing the web on the large screen. Oh and 4G rocks. I have decent coverage in my community and the web experience is just awesome, with the fast download, coupled with the fast processor and large screen!

3) The UI. WebOs is 1000 (in my opinion) times more elegant and WebOS handles multitasking at least 1bil times better.
Oh, and I mean absolutely no offense to the Android community with this statement. I am still very new and have not found my way around yet, but I gotta say, the Precentral community is absolutely awesome and I do miss them. I especially miss Preware and WOSQI. Made home brew easy as pie

4)Andriod wins and for one simple reason. Google Voice integration, Google Contacts integration, Google Mail, Google Calendar. Beyond build quality, laggy OS and no SD card, the Pre's biggest failing is poor PIM management. With Google, it's all in the cloud and seamlessly integrated.

Google's idea of giving away the OS and basically sucking people into all their products is just rock solid. I resisted Google for years, but thanks to Google Voice and Android, I am now 100% assimilated. I also like that I now have a choice of phone Manufacturers and I can stay with Android when I upgrade and never loose all my Google stuff. When it's time to upgrade, if HTC has the best Android, then I'll stick with them. If it's Moto/Samsung/BigBobsPhonomatic Inc. Then I'll switch, and not look back because all my apps, contacts, docs, emai, voice. Everything is the Google cloud.

I haven't seen these 2 issues mentioned. So I'll chime in.

I was a launch day pre purchaser (same for evo), and the few things i do not like about android are...

1. Gmail attachments. I HATE not being able to d/l attachments from the email app. Nope, instead need to go to gmail.com and do it that way. Not a huge issue, but a needless pain i feel.

2. Universal search. WEBOS handles this so much better, it's just easier to text, browse the web, or open a program thru uni-search on the pre. That is something i will never get over losing.

That said, i love the EVO, and won't be goin back, until webos matures a little bit more. If your lookin for advice, I'd say jump ship, there are some adjustments to be made, but the overall experience will be much better.

Pros:
More Apps
Big Screen
4g (Where Available)
Reboot about 30sec

Cons:

Multitasking and notifications not as good as WebOS
Grounding issue that affects screen sensitivity
720p Rec highly compressed
Can't share video without Wifi
Light leakage
30fps Cap

I just downloaded some new music using the Amazon client, located it in the music app, and added it to existing playlist.

How is the experience? Friggin' awesome!

I moved from the Pre to the EVO last week. At first I really didn't like it. I guess because I was so used to webos and such. Now I don't know why I kept the Pre as long as I did! It def takes some getting used to but well worth it. There are just too many things that are good to list here.
As far as the multitasking goes it IMO is just as good if not better than the Pre. You just gotta get used to the diff settings and stuff.

I was a Palm and WebOS fanboy! No doubt about it. So much so, till i wouldn't give anything else a chance. The only reason i switched is the hardware but that was before i really played with Android. I can say this OS has really come a long way! It doesn't hold a candle to WebOS in certain areas like multitasking cards and notifications but it still does those things pretty well. The transition has been outstanding for me and there's no looking back until Palm/HP gets their ISH together and get the hardware to match their awesome OS. Otherwise its Android and the EVO all day for me!!!

I love my Evo! :)

I've always been a big Palm fan and I still support them but I just love my new Evo, everything just seems to work so slick and the size is just perfect......it feels like I'm using a tool not a toy!

Having owned Palm devices since the Pilot (3 PDA's & 4 Phones) it was not an easy choice at first.

Cons:
My first Pre had a defective battery out of the box, but Sprint Tech support didn't know about it, A local Sprint repair tech replace the battery and the phone(refurb).

No ability to use Palm apps I have had for years without the purchase of a third party app (for $30) that didn't support all my apps.

Limited number of usefull apps

No voice features( even my Treo had voice command.

Pros:
The ability to glide from app to app while still on the phone (true multitasking)

Great notification system.

The Evo on the otherhand gives back some of the things that I miss from my old Palm devices.

Only having the EVO for about a week only time will tell.

ps

I sell phones for a living and have the ability to test most phones on the market.

[/I HATE not being able to d/l attachments from the email appQUOTE]

Hmm, I can go to the HTC mail app, open the email, and long click the icon that represents the attachment and get options to view or save to SD.

I somewhat miss the card view multi tasking, but I'm getting over it quickly as I get more used to the home button. The only other thing I miss is how WebOS has IM's merged in with texting.

.

Gmail attachments download just fine.

99% of all problems are user error.

i thought i was clear. Gmail app does attachments. i just downloaded a PDF. hit preview and save as.

I don't get a "Save As" option when previewing (either Adobe Acrobat or the stock PDF viewer). I've tried long-presses, menu, etc. both within the GMail app and in the viewer.

Are you running Android 2.1 or Froyo?

Finally got my Evo last night!!! I am really loving this phone. From webOS to android, there is a learning curve. I got the basics down so learning the rest shouldn't take too long.

Like with most people I do miss webOS's card system. It was the best way to multi-task and really simple to use. Gestures and swiping made things a breeze as well.
The physical keyboard will be missed, although the Evo benefits with a large screen, I still prefer to have real keys to hit when I text. I like how webOS made their notification simple to use and navigate. A text comes in you, you can see it on the bottom of your phone and you can either swipe it away or tap it and view it. I'm still getting used to the shade pull down on android.

As far as making the switch, I am very satisfied and happy that I got this phone! With most things new you have to adjust to it. I'm sure I will get used to android and love the Evo as much as I did the pre. Before I thought Sense was pretty dumb, but after playing with it, it can be very beneficial as you can set your pages accordingly to your liking or to your lifestyle. I've created different types of Sense's and it's pretty cool!. Customization on the phone is great! Adding widgets and apps to your pages is very simple and removing them is even easier.

The snapdragon processor is fast and makes this phone very snappy! I can swipe away to different pages quickly and opens apps and movies really fast too! Lastly, all the google apps that you can use. From talk, gmail, footprints, etc, this alone makes android a winner.

This is pretty much my experience in a nut shell under 24 hours. I know I will find out more about this phone once I start playing with it more. I hope others are having a great experience from pre to Evo.

Gekko,

Do you have Documents To Go installed? Maybe that's why you have a "Save As" option.

From what I can see, unless one has an app installed that can handle the attachment (with a Save option), you can't save anything that the GMail app downloads/previews (except pictures it seems).

So, if for example I receive a .rar file or a .qif file, and I don't have an appropriate app installed for viewing (and saving) the document or file, I can't save it with the GMail app.

If I'm wrong about this and there is another way, please enlighten us.
