Predictions: When will the Sprint GNex be released?

It's a sad irony in life when you want something so bad and wait for it so long that by the time it arrives you're not sure if you even want it anymore.

I'm in the same boat. I got the Evo 4g the day it came out, and although there have been a huge number of better devices that have come out in the mean time, I never suffered from buyers remorse. I was just anxious for my two year contract to be up so I wouldnt have to buy my next phone at retail price. The GN has been the phone I've wanted ever since it was announced, but as my contract is coming to an end, I just want to make sure that the phone I pick is going to keep me satisfied for two more years. The wait for the GN is kind of killing my desire for it, there was a time when I would have left from work to go get one if it was available on my carrier. Now, not so much. When they release it, I'm going to take a look at what other phones are available, what is due soon, and make my choice then.

the only other thing i would consider now is -

1. Sprint G-Note
2. Sprint GS3 (which is a big unknown now).

but i am really tired of skins and bloat so i really want the G-Nex. perfect size, specs, phone IMO.

i'm not leaving Sprint though. i love the peace of mind of having unlimited data and texts and i love my free unlimited mobile to mobile voice calls to ANY mobile phone on ANY carrier. no other carrier can touch this plan for Sprint's price. after discounts, taxes, fees etc. i pay about $74/month.

Ha! That is so funny and rings true. I do wish the Nexus wasn't quite so tall and was just a thinner/lighter EVO dimension (with micro SD).

Verizon's wasn't entirely a true nexus due to having carrier loaded software and similar tweaks.
Right, a real nexus isn't a nexus because a company installed one or two apps on it that they have created a policy to have on ALL their phones to save time and money by not having stupid people call tech support.
They didn't change the look (HTC Hero, HTC Hero on Sprint and Droid Eris were technically all the same phone and didn't look like each other at all), I don't recall hearing anything about different hardware unless you consider GSM a requirement for a Nexus (but you might as well claim that also a requirement for a true iPhone, so Sprint and Verizon don't actually have iPhones), and the OS is straight Android 4 with no manufacturer skins or tweaks.

Agreed. My requirements for a good phone are really simple: sd card slot, nfc, 4-4.5 inch screen, and as of last week a replaceable battery (since I had always assumed it a given with Android prior to the HTC Ones). The really sad thing is a phone with all of this already exists and Sprint even has the GSII, except they have the older non-NFC version.

A nexus is a nexus because it has pure vanilla android. It has nothing to do with hardware. The nexus brand means nothing on it that wasn't added by Google. I'm not adding my own interpretation, that's what Google says about their product.

Read a couple reviews. Verizon gnex is not considered a true nexus.

Sure, some people need phones with carrier added software. The nexus is not for them.

That is adding your own interpretation though. What does "The nexus brand means nothing on it that wasn't added by Google" mean exactly? Does it mean that if you buy a real Nexus, then install any app on it it stops being a Nexus? I'm pretty sure it doesn't. That is exactly what Verizon is doing, installing an app. An alternate interpretation of that sentence is that "nothing that wasn't added by Google" is on a deeper level. HTC Sense and I am assuming Motoblur and TouchWiz are all part of the custom OS, you can't just copy an apk over to a new phone and run HTC Sense on a Galaxy, and similarly you can't remove it without installing a completely different rom.

The Verizon SGN and Sprint's SGN are going to be exactly the same externally?

I am still thinking a mid-April release. :)

I think everyone would be very surprised if they were significantly different shapes because that would make some Galaxy Nexus cases not fit.

April release is sounding about right, but who knows when specifically in April. They'll probably announce it ahead of April 1 so that impatient HTC Evo 4G users will know what's coming before they're due for an upgrade.
That is, they should do that, but no guarantee that they will.

I don't know anymore. After stopping into Big Red over lunch to ply around with their Nexus, there are elements of the UI that just don't seem as easy as Sense. Even with the bloat, I do like the appearance of Sense when you get rid of all the preloaded widgets. The keyboard, calendar and email in-message shading and contacts seems more efficient than ICS. I could get used to it, but I'm thinking the updated Sense on the HTC One would be better IMHO.

First you say
The nexus brand means nothing on it that wasn't added by Google. I'm not adding my own interpretation, that's what Google says about their product.
But your supporting argument is an Engadget article. From skimming it there are only two arguments I see for why it is not a true Nexus. The first is that the back plate has Verizon branding instead of Google. This is something with absolutely no effect on the phone itself. You yourself said that (

, well the little bit of paint on the back isn't even close to "hardware". Give it a couple of months in a pocket with keys or throw a case on it and you won't see the logo at all (we're not apple fan boys who need to make sure their cases have a hole in the back to show off the Apple branding). The second argument Engadget makes is the lack of Google Wallet. But of *all* the Nexuses out there, the only one that does have GWallet is Sprint's version of the Nexus S. Are none of the Nexus phones out there real Nexus devices other then Sprint's Nexus S because of this?

I'm sorry if I'm a purist when it comes to bloatware. I'm not going to argue that with you because it won't go anywhere. Google wallet is available on all BUT the Verizon nexus, because they blocked it. You can still get the apk, but this is an element Google intended to be available for it and it caused a big issue between them and big red.

The point has already been exhausted. You admitted Verizon puts apps on it and that's the bottom line.

I wanted the galaxy nexus until the htc one x was announced. Knowing the bootloader will be unlockable on it and the fact my evo shift has cyanogenmod or any other aosp ROM i could ask for means stock Android isn't really a selling point to me any more since pretty much any phone without an encrypted bootloader can have it. In fact some phones i believe will get the ics update before the ns4g does which tells me even updates aren't any faster. I am not sure what I'll do but the more time that passes the less likely i am to get it.

The Samsung SGS3 is #1 on my wish list, even though nothing is known about it at this moment. The HTC One X is #2, and while I do like the phone, no removeable battery (1800 mAh battery at that), and no SDcard slot will probably prevent me from buying this phone. The Sprint GNex has fallen to the #3 spot. I remember getting my EVO4G 6 months after it was released, and I'm not so sure that I want to go that route with the GNex since it was originally released for Verizon back in December.

Looks like I'm gonna keep enjoying the ICS ROM on my EVO4G until the SGS3 comes out.

The Note is just a little too big for my evil deeds.
The SSGS3 is going to be later if not late this year.

I am still plan to get a Galaxy Nexus when it comes out.

As the giveaway winners will be drawn/notified on 04/16, I say the release will be right about then.
Give or take a day or two.
Again, just my opinion.

Hurry up Sprint! I have actually been caught playing with iphones at the store!:-[

Don't do it.

You can turn back, but the memories will haunt you for the rest of your life, and years from now you will wake up screaming from the lack of options.
