Predictive Text what I am doing wrong

I have both Swiftkey and Skype but I prefer Swype because that style of typing is much faster for me. I'm so use to it that it's hard for me to type normally now. I don't like the predictive because you have to constantly what for the right word to come up. I prefer just typing everything I want to say very fast, and I can do that with Swype.

But my wife loves Swiftkey, it drives her nuts to type on any other keyboard... like if she uses my phone.

Yeah the stock keyboard is terrible for predicting text, it drives me nuts. But swype or swiftkey is much, much better. I do personally prefer swype because that's what I've been using for years.

I was waiting to see if the standard keyboard with JellyBean would be any better than the stock ICS version, but couldn't take it any longer and installed SwiftKey 3 last night. Although roughly one day is not much to base my perception on so far, I've made zero txt mistakes today. Not that its a big deal as it just with family, but sometimes the misses and autocorrections from the standard keyboard were so off it required wasted time and effort to go back and correct, or resend txts to clean up the garbled meaning. As others have said, this is a good investment and helps to eliminate one more of those little daily annoyances.

I have swype and swiftkey on my g3. Had swype for years and love it, but because of all the hype here I bought swiftkey over the weekend to try. So far i like it but I'm not as fast as I am on swype. We will see after a fair trial period which I like better. I figured for 99 cents I couldnt go wrong.

I'm new to all of this... If you install a keyboard app, does it automatically replace the stock keyboard, or is it a setting in the phone? Or do you have to open that app, type your message and send it from there? Sorry if this isn't the place to ask, i just figured I would since it's kind of on topic...

It replaces the stock keyboard -- but you have to go into the device settings and tell it which keyboard you prefer to use. Most Android users (and not just "power users") use a 3rd party keyboard of some kind I believe. The stock keyboards are functional and get the job done, but it's great to be able to install something better.

Ehh.. am I the only one not into predictive text?

I don't like a program telling me what I'm trying to type, even with my big stubby "megan fox" thumbs.

I've never been able to really get into the predictive text thing either, I've always been more a fan of Swype-style keyboards.

It seems that any time a keyboard thread is started, Swiftkey and Swype are the winners hands down. Which one of those you prefer is really a matter of personal preference, since both are great, but both are quite different from each other in terms of how to use them efficiently.

Swiftkey for the win, the predictive text is off the charts. I am trying the samsung keyboard with the tip that was given in the thread to see if its usable now. So far so good. Im most likely to go back to swiftkey. Swype predictive text is not that great to me. I always find myself having to fix swyping errors.

Swiftkey works well for me...I had to end Samsung's predictive text reign the first night I had the phone...Well worth $3.99

another vote for swiftkey!! its awesome and i scored it free on amazon when it was the app of the day!!

I had the same problem and went into settings and unchecked everything connected to that keyboard. that stock keyboard way Samsung set it up was a disgrace. first day I had my phone sending texts my friends were ready to send 911 to my house as if something was wrong with me. you have to really study the settings and undo the crap Samsung set to there advantage
