Priority Notifications with Lollipop

Can someone explain how priority notifications work with Lollipop. I thought I u destroy this but I'm having serious issues. Even if I don't have messages selected during priority, when text messages come through from non-favorites it still comes through with sound. It's driving me crazy that I can't get this fixed. Any suggestions? Attached is my current settings. Please help

Welcome to Android Central! I'm not entirely familiar with the G3's settings, but it looks like you probably have to tap that "Calls and Notifications" option, and set that to Priority Only. Right now it's set to All, which means all notifications will come through.

The options you've checked or unchecked below, under Priority Only, will only take effect if you've actually changed the "Calls and Notifications" option to Priority.
