PRL update today

yesterday i was talking with the tec people on sprint and ask them about the PRL update and they told me there is a problem in the network. i ask them why my EVO drop the signal to 0 and back to normal. In my area they are installing new cell sites on Puerto Rico.

I'm surprised they actually gave you an answer. The lady I talked to in tech said and I quote about the PRL update. I don't know about the PRL update, I'm in tech...you'd have to talk to advance tech. It seems to me that they are trying to avoid saying anything about it in fear of losing customers. All the secrecy Sprint has had as of late has really left a bad taste in my mouth. Probably going to T-Mobile first chance I get. They have a network second to none when it comes to data speeds. Yes, Verizon has a bigger national network but T-Mobile has a bigger world wide foot print. Not to mention they are now cheaper than Sprint when it comes to unlimited plans. As far as new towers go, I would take it with a grain of salt. We've had a 4G test tower here in town for like 4 or 5 months now with no improvment in service. TMo already has thier 4G network up and running here, plus the big bonus for me...tons of stock Android devices to choose from. :-)

I am rooted I have used the free teathering but not often maybe only 3 times I can count.

Mmm...well. That just threw for a loop. Perhaps it is a network error. Though on the other hand, if you guys read the story today or yesterday about AT&T sending letters out to people who using free tethering...makes me wonder.

PRL Update

Well, Sprint would send the PRL update out to every phone. Reason being...Sprint doesn't know where your going to travel. So if there were going to change thier service area they would have to send out an updated PRL so your device knows what towers to talk to.

Are you sure about that, because I still had my old PRL 60677 until, yes I stupidly updated it myself thinking it would improve something.....I should have known better...:(

PRL Update

Oh and here is another kicker...Today I got a message from Sprint Zone, and under the part where it says "I Need Help" you can select it, then it goes to the My Device section and checks you connections Voice and Data. Then below that it tells me that a profile update is available and to update now to ensure full access and below that it says there is a coverage update (PRL) to maximize my coverage area.....

Well I have not been able to get that to work either......

Go Figure.....

By the way I am running Stock Evo 4g
Not Rooted

Positive, they send it out and your device waits for you to update the PRL. :-)

One funny thing I've noticed about the Sprint Zone. No matter when you check inside of it to make sure everything is running smoothly, it always says there is an update. Even if you know for a fact that you have the latest version....lol.

Sorry to hear that they have bad reception down there. If you can avoid it though, I wouldn't recommend prepaid. Reason being is that with a carrier you have the plus of tech support and what not. Most of the people I know with a prepaid phone hate it and wish they could get with a carrier. Like my roommate for instance. He couldn't have been happier when he was able to jump on the plan with me. Now don't het me wrong, prepaid can be a good thing for a lot of people who don't want the monthly bill or being obligated to stay with a company for 1 or 2 years. Thought they do have a send a certain amount each month to retain service, which if you ask me is they same as a contract. Anyway, before I start to really ramble I'm gonna stop myself...lol.

Yea you said the right work "YOU" wonder what would have happen if I hadn't updated my PRL would it have stayed like it was.

You know, I don't know...lol. It makes me wonder if the phone would have still been able to to use those towers. That would have been crazy. Unless whoever owns those towers now put some kinda block on the signal their producing. If that's the case then I suppose it wouldn't matter if you'd updated your PRL because your signal was gonna get worse anyway. I just wish Sprint would have made a bigger effort to let their customers know about the drastic changes to the service area.

If you don't update it and are running an older version, then when you start running around hopping towers or ROAMING, your phone may try to connect to a tower that is not authorized anymore, and then you'll say "That crappy Sprint network has no coverage" even though there may be a tower sitting next to it that you could use if it was in your PRL. Always update your PRL. They update the PRL first, then about a amonth later drop, move, or update towers. You're going to lose coverage on the old PRL eventually; regardless of whether you update it or not.

Funny thing happen today. I was in my garage and looked at my phone and it had that little triangle above the antenna strength bars, that means I was roming doesn't it...Funny though it's never happen at my home before, then about 20 to 30 min later it went away...

Yes, the roaming triangle of death is so mean to your signal. I curse the fates when I see it.

I'm doing the 1x thing an awful lot now. Even in areas where I used to get great coverage and speed, the best I see is two bars. So I have one of the greatest phones ever, and it's almost embarrassing to use any more. If this keeps up, and I think it will, there is no way I'll continue with Sprint. Sprint has always represented a raging value, offering a lot for not a lot of money. But now that we're getting less for our money, there's simply no value. It only makes sense that we're getting less for less. Looks like I'll have to look to another carrier to get good service.

Exactly my thoughts. If they don't get the network coverage back that they had a mere 4 months ago, I will be going to T-Mobile. They are now the cheapest national carrier in terms of unlimited plans. Now grant you they have a cap on their 4G service in 2 or 5 gig tiers, but I think it would be worth it knowing I'm getting the signal I'm paying for.

Yea I'm with ya'll...I talked with my AT&T guru today that I know pretty well and he say's verizon has the best coverage and it working it's way up...He also said something about Sprint and Verizon merging....wouldn't that be a whoot......

T-Mobile would be great, except that they're about to be bought out by at&t and I'm not sure what the implications of that are going to be. Verizon would be the only other choice, but it doesn't seem like they're very hacker-friendly.

The AT&T guy that I talked to said the T-Mobile thing is already a done deal they just havn't went public yet...

Anyone know the reason behind the diminished coverage area? Somehow I suspect that Verizon is jacking up their rates to hurt competitors.
