PRL UPDATE 01115/60678

Ok so looking into it, here are the changes in layman in the 60678/1115 update:

The 60678 PRL will remove 3G roaming coverage in FL, MI, OH, WV and WI for all Consumers. Business IL and CL customers however, will get PRL 1115 with continued 3G roaming service.

I don't know why, I don't have access to the information used to make this decision. I'm assuming the roaming agreements expired and the options were either remove roaming entirely for all customers in these areas, or limit the number of accounts that can roam there (making it be only business accounts that will roam on 3G in these areas).

If the account is setup as a Business Individual Liable or Business Corporate Liable account there will be EvDO roaming in these areas, if the Sprint account is a standard consumer account there will only be 1xRTT roaming. The Sprint.com coverage map will only show the 1xRTT coverage in these areas regardless. The Business accounts are receiving a custom PRL, not the standard national PRL all other devices receive."

Thanks go to halcyoncmdr134 from community.sprint.com for the info.

The AT&T guy that I talked to said the T-Mobile thing is already a done deal they just havn't went public yet...

It's far from a done deal... Any time the government is involved (and AT&T and T-Mobile do NOT yet have government approval) it's going to take some time. At the end of the day I see it being completed but your probably months and months away of that being a "DONE DEAL" as far as AT&T and T-Mobile are concerned it's done, they have an agreement in place but until they get anti trust approval from the government.................

The FCC is actually taking public comments on the matter right now, they haven't approved anything. They say they want to make sure the we (the people/consumer) aren't screwed by this in the long run. Here's a link to where you can voice your opinion to the FCC and let them know what you think about the matter. I for one am against the acquisition, it's only going to raise prices and remove services. :(

Strange...I got the 1115 PRL on my EVO and I am not a BIL or a BCL. Just a consumer account..

Yes I agree with you, I am aganist it as well, but I still think it will go through.. and there is no use running to another carrier because most of them are all the same.

So did I and have noticed no difference in reception or service. I was temporarily in a roaming area yesterday and had no problem at all.

Do you have a discount on your account? This could make you a business consumer.

I'm in Florida, and I'm getting the 01115, and everytime I search for a new PRL, it constantly says my PRL was updated, but it's always to 01115... I haven't been able to check 3G roaming.

I get a discount through my work on service and I got the 01115 PRL after rolling back from CM7 to stock Sense. It's not a "business" line, per se.

IDK anymore, I have a discount through work plus if I'm not mistaken I have business account (will have to check) as well. If what the guy from the other forum said is true through, then business accounts shouldn't notice any degradation in service. Either way, I just want the speeds I was getting last year when I first got my EVO. Now the only time I'm getting 3G speeds that I would just call "ok" (140Kbs to 165Kbs down) is late at night when most people around here are asleep. During the day it ranges anywhere between 22Kbs to no more than 80Kbs down....and trust me. I have tried everything increase this speed. Network refreshes, checking my radio versions against up to date ones, PRL and Profile updates....nothing really helps. No worries though, for after this service area debacle and the fact that the EVO has that streaming bug that just won't go away (which really sucks on mine because of the slow speeds). I can not tell you how many times I've wanted to throw this thing against a brick wall when I was trying to stream and it wouldn't. I just had to remind myself, it wasn't the EVOs fault it was released with this awful bug. I'm pretty sure I've made up my mind about moving to T-Mobile, just gonna wait till the merger happens and see what is left after the dust settles. On the other hand though, I might want to sign now so I can get grandfathered in. Thoughts?

I do get a discount on services through my work, but the account is not a business account, I have been with Sprint/Nextel for a long time and always got work related discounts.

Edit:
Tayl428, Had to update my post about the PRL update on my phone. Just noticed a few days ago that on my wife's phone (Samsung Intercept) her PRL did not change to the same thing mine did and they are both on the same account. Wonder why is that...???

I'm not buying the line that there's no degradation in service. I've been driving around town in areas I've always had at least 3g coverage, and I'm now seeing solid 1x. I took a one and a half hour drive up to another city today, and I was 1x at least 20 minutes each way. Even the voice network was non
-existant in several places. Anyone who thinks they're not affected a.) is lucky, or b.) doesn't travel enough. Talked to Tier 2 support today; she said "the internet on your phone is broken." She's going
to call me back tomorrow to guide me through a factory reset...thanks! WTF?!

This would explain alot, I am a truckdriver and I have noticed that my signal quality has been crappier as of late. I may have to consider paying more for another carrier if this is what I can expect....

Yes, this is what I mean, if you get a Sprint monthly discount because of where you work, it used to be considered a 'business account'. Not sure if they still consider that, but I know appx 2005-2008 Sprint did.

Yea maybe so, but I have noticed the same problems with my service as everyone on here is talking about. I am a service tech for a vending service and do a lot of driving in a metro area and I check and use my phone a lot and have noticed the service problems. I am also like most everyone else about ready to jump ship. Yea sprint does have better plans, but what good is it if you have no or poor service.

And I got the 1115 PRL

This service issue plus I did a little math earlier and made my final decision about switching carriers. I was thinking about getting the new Nexus S 4G, but then I realized that in order to have that phone...its going to cost me an extra $200 over the coarse of the new contract. With the 4G fee and the new smartphone fee, its just not worth it anymore. Yeah I can get the phone for $200 at first, but then after which I've paid $400 for it. What if I decided when it's time to upgrade I don't like any of the new phones, I still have to pay $20 dollars in basically rent each month to Sprint for it. Not to mention since Sprint has prices that our on the same level as Verizon, why not just go with a carrier that actually has a network that's really nationwide. T-Mobile is who I'm moving to, the speeds in their network are far superior to anything else available right now. Just need to get a phone that supports quad band HSPA.

uhh so my EVO is trying to do the PRL update, but just gets stays on the "updating" screen. when i go to the System Updates menu to try and do it manually and it says "previous DM session is working now, try again later"

HALP *******IT

I feel like the PRL 1115 is screwing stuff up. My buddy has an EVO and he was getting 1.2M-1.7M on 3g while i was getting .2M-.5M MAX....The 3g speeds are getting absolutely horrible in areas where they are building 4G. I called Sprint and they refreshed my Profile which did nothing.

well i took it to Sprint and they just backed my personal stuff up and flashed the phone. not only is the PRL issue gone, but the phone runs way faster now so im assuming i had something else screwing it up

What is your PRL now?

I just got the 01115 update as well and it has greatly slowed down my speeds too! What is going on here?
