Probably returning Bolt for Bionic

I too am waiting on the bionic. Looks to me like Motorola designed it to handle LTE battery drain. DDR2 memory, tegra2, and qhd display are all lower power consumption hardware options that also provide excellent performance. Then they threw a 1900 stock battery in.

And on on the 512 ram vs tb's 768, the ddr2 is almost twice the speed. Should be fine.

Ya I gave the T-Bolt a try but had a HUGE problem with hardware issues. Went through 6 yes 6 T-Bolts. The first had alot of light leakage, the second had a dead pixel dead center of it, 3rd, 4th and 5th all suffered from dust under the screen, one had lots actually and the 6th had a super jacked up screen (there was a decent sized crease between the top and the screen) So I FINALLY gave up, got a bunch of sorrys from best buy for all of the defects and switched to an iphone..

My mom whos on my family plan had originally taken my og droid (but it was a tad complicated for her since she has no prior experience with android or smart phones for that matter) I got tired of the iphone after a few days, just gave her the iphone since it's alot more user friendly and I took back my og droid.. She is currently due for her upgrade rite now so I am going to wait on the Bionic and use her upgrade for myself :) I am hoping I have NO hardware issues like the bolt had..

Btw the best buy I got it from said that they along with a few other best buys have had multiple returns due to hardware issues like mine.. So far Motorola has treated me good (ZERO problems with my og droid outside of it being a tad laggy) I refuse to EVER go back to HTC after that nightmare. I am also hoping for a little better battery life since the T-Bolts was below average. Oh ya, hopefully the April release date turns out to be true :)

Well, my Bolt is officially going back tomorrow. The phone itself sealed its fate today with multiple force-closes in random apps (including the camera app whenever I switched to the FFC), sluggishness and stuttering, inexplicable freezes, and a loss of connectivity without reason.

The software just isn't fully baked yet, and I might as well wait for the Bionic.

I got the gingerbread on my x and it is a different phone I love it over the thunderbolt its great no lag and lots of updated stuff I'm liking it a lot more'than the bolt'

From what I've seen (and from little there is on the Bionic), it appears that the Gingerbread on the DX that was shown looks awfully similar to the screens shown on the Bionic. So, I'm wondering if that's basically the same version that will come on the Bionic at release. It seems quite a few people have already warmed up to it more than any other version of Blur. Other than the locked bootloader issues, Blur seems to be the biggest criticism of Moto devices. And if that's less of an issue with the latest version, I think the Bionic could be a huge hit.

After seeing GingerBlur on the DX it really helped make my decision to return the Thunderbolt and give the Bionic a second chance. But it's got to come out before Verizon initiates it's Tiered LTE Data Plans.

BuffaloMadMan what do you think about Blur on it do you think that it is the same or less intrusive?

A friend that I had advised to get the Thunderbolt finally got his today. He loves it coming from his Droid Eris, and from my time with it, I think it's a great phone, with one flaw...

The screen.

It's nice, big and vibrant, all big pluses in my opinion.. But the resolution makes things look oversized and goofy to me, in a way that badly stands out. Personally, I still want a big 4.3" screen like that, but qHD is gonna be a must have for me after seeing that.

^ agreed. I spent some time comparing the Inspire and the Atrix and I definately felt that the inspire came off a but Fisher Price in the comparision due to the smaller resolution on the larger screen.

Eh, its more the way that HTC has the screen display the OS. They just stretch things instead of adjusting to the bigger size. Motorola doesn't do that.

HTC dosent stretch the image. Ive owned both HTC, Sammy and Motos and if anything the aspect ratio of the Motos screw up how some games and apps look. They stretch the image longer to fit the screen. Making the image distorted.

That's not actually what they do. If you compared an HTC with a Moto and they had the same screen size, you'd get more text on the Motorola since it has a higher resolution.

Pretty much. I know the OG Droid/Droid 2 line all had an extra few rows of vertical pixels compared to other phones.

I saw this post in the Atrix forums, much of it should hold true for the Bionic, so I decided to repost it here.

Yes, despite Verizon's blazingly fast LTE network, which i have in my hometown, and despite AT&T's flat out disgraceful actions as of late, when it came down to which PHONE was for me I returned my Thunderbolt and committed to an Atirx. I couldn't be happier and no one's more surprised than me.

After I dropped AT&T and picked up the TBolt I quickly developed a feeling of "uh oh...what did I just do." The battery issues of the Thunderbolt really are a joke. Yes there are fixes and tricks you can do to improve it and they did work for me, and yes you can spend even more money for another battery but should you have to? Having a phone where you're staring at the battery icon skeptically just waiting for the whole thing to go to hell is no fun. I don't want to neuter my phone with dim screen settings and this-and-that disabled just to make it through the day. That's not why i choose to research and pay top dollar for a smartphone, ya know?

When I began to see the writing on the wall with the Thunderbolt I went to AT&T and purchased an Atrix just to demo the two side by side. I'd send an email on one and then the next email would be sent from the other. Make a call on one and the next call I'd try to make on the other, so on and so on. In all areas of PERFORMANCE, outside of network speed, the Atrix was the winner. I did have one person claim to completely dislike the sound of the Atrix...the "muffled" complaint. However, everyone else preferred the sound of the Atrix. In one instance I started a conference call I needed to be hands free for with the Thunderbolt, kickstand in action. The people on the other end couldn't make out half of what i was saying. When I finally said i'll call you guys back and switched to the Atrix it was immediate "wow that's a lot better".

What really shocked me was that I kind of preferred the 4" to the 4.3" screen. I was wowed by my demo of the Droid X and the large format screen but in the end I really didn't want it. A tad too much. Typing in landscape mode on the Atrix proved to be the sweet spot for me. Now Angry Birds kinda blows on the Atrix...but i'll live. Its literally the only game I ever even consider playing. Emails, calls, texts, etc...THOSE THINGS COUNT. Those are the things which keep my career going, my mortgage paid, family happy, loved ones in touch and in those areas the Atrix truly shines. The issue with yellows (as in "yellow" doesn't look yellow) is a major bummer but again...after all was said and done it's not that big of a deal. The few flaws that have been discovered early on will be taken care of. HSPA+ won't be a priority of AT&T's for long but when its finally deployed it'll be just enough to hold us over until their LTE network is let loose and manufacturers have had more time to study LTE's affect on battery life. The poor earpiece speaker design will be hammered out (that's a hardware problem by the way...don't count on software taking care of a speaker that physically distorts). The device has only been out what, 3 or 4 weeks? Already a software update has been put out to deal with several needed fixes. Motorola's on it. Don't worry.

Needless to say the Thunderbolt has officially been gone for a couple of days now. Folks, the Atrix is an incredible device. Its potential will probably never be realized on AT&T. Pretty damn close though and that's waaaaaaaay better than anything else out there on ANY network. Do a speed test with Atrix and any other phone on the same Wifi network...the Atrix can flat out fly. Will it ever be able to do it on AT&T? I doubt it but we shall see.

One last thing I have to admit is absolutely loving Sense. Holy s*** has HTC figured the UI thing out. Leaps and bounds better than the rest. Come on, Moto...that's the only thing HTC has on you guys!

Enough rambling. Just wanted to pass on a good news story here in Atrix forum land.

i noticed that on speakerphone, the tbolt had to held next to my mouth for it to work. i think something with the noise canceling feature thinks i am background noise if i talk with it on the desk or in my hand as i drive.

Don't get hung up on the amount of RAM. The Bionic has DDR2 RAM which will be faster than that in the Thunderbolt. How this plays out in the device as far as speed is yet to be seen (although the Atrix has DDR2 RAM as well, but has 1GB vs. 512MB in the Bionic). But the point is that you can't just compare the amounts between these devices to say one is better than the other.

I read that, too, but honestly I'd rather have double the RAM. I think it will be more noticeable in terms of experience.

I think Moto is just cheaping out.

Yeah, DDR2 is twice as fast as DDR and with half the latency and they still cheaped out and put 512 in like most other devices have.

This is not a cheap solution. It offers same performance as increasing the amount of ram but at lower voltage and with less vol for the OS to manage ie less work for Cpu.
