Problems After Enabling Full Immersive Mode?

Hello all,

I posed this question in a thread in the mod section but after a few days of waiting for some kind of activity there I decided to just pose the question here instead and see if anyone bites.

Has anybody run into any issues after pushing the commands for full immersive mode via ADB? Does it mean anything else or cause any glitches at all? Even minor ones I'm interesting in knowing about. I really want to do it but I don't want to deal with a bunch of glitching after it's done. I know it's reversible, but I won't even bother if it screws anything up.

If anyone has first hand experience with this and can provide any feedback as to any possible negative side effects, I'd be grateful! Thanks!

By "pushing the commands" to you mean enabling an app like Tiles to change the state? If so I've done that with no apparent effect that I've observed. Can't help with direct command from adb though. Obviously, any outside control of something as complicated as a current smartphone carries risk.

Although i can't say about the full immersive mode i've used adb before to enable the missing mobile data shortcut on my s8+ and it didn't have any negative impact on either my phone or my pc (i personally won't do the immersive mode as i kind of don't want another background app running).

I would definitely not push just the immersive mode command, instead I'd use something like shortcutter, or tiles, so you can toggle it on and off at will. I've had to turn it off when using Facebook, because it will hide the back button, and any attempt to go back from a comment will result in you tapping in the comment box again after you initially close it, unless you hit things just right.

I'm going to look into this app Tiles you guys are mentioning. I appreciate the feedback! I'm definitely more interested in a 'toggle on the fly' type situation with full immersive mode vs just pushing the commands via adb. So you all would recommend Tiles as the best option for this? Any restrictions you've noticed using the phone while full immersive mode is enabled via this app?

Edit: just checked it out. This app requires root, so this doesn't help me. But thanks anyway!

I don't understand your last point. Pushing the commands to enable immersive mode via adb will give you another app running in the background? How's that? What app? That's a bit confusing.

I'm using shortcutter on my phone. Doesn't require root, and haven't noticed any issues with using it in immersive mode via the shortcutter app vs using it with just the adb command.

No problems at all with the phone after using ADB to activate and later deactivate the Immersive mode, just like it was posted on the thread I created on the Mod section.

I ended up removing it because simply for my usage it was more of a hassle needing to swipe up to see the navigation bar than the benefits I was getting from it.

Shortcutter will actually allow you to select an option to hide the navigation bar, notification bar, both or neither.

To enable the immersive mode (at least to my knowledge) you need an app which i forgot it's name to have the shortcut in your notification bar.

You can also do it with a straight adb command, but then you're stuck in immersive mode until you disable it with another adb command. So yes, I wouldn't do it without an app to give you the toggle, but you can.

I'm looking into that app now. I have to allow access to settings secure via adb but then it seems it might work. Hopefully.

Question...does it just remove the nav and status bars but keep the space there, or does it also adjust everything I the screen to be completely full screen after they're toggled? That's what I'm after. There have been a few apps I've tried that just removed the information from the screen but the spaces were still there which defeats the purpose for me.

Then you're not following. There is a command to push via adb that enables full immersive mode, which if you read my first post you'd see that's what I was initially inquiring about. No app needed doing that. But to disable full immersive mode I'd also need to push another command via adb, and since now becoming aware of a few apps that might work and allow me you toggle full immersive mode on and off on the fly, I'm more inclined to go that route.

Some apps just aren't optimized for it, but in most I've checked it extends the displayed portion of the app to the very edge if the top and bottom, with no space left over where the bars used to be.

Right, you wrote "it works great" in the other thread and that was about it as far as feedback. I needed a little more than that, which is why I raised the question there and now here since it went unanswered in your thread. But thanks for your response!

Tiles does NOT require root, it needs permission set via adb to give it change access on the phone. I have it installed and did not root. Tiles, as the name inplies, also contains many commands, not just the immersive mode.

Sorry but the way the forum works now, the threads, even the ones you create doesn't get subscribed to automatically, I post here a lot and is hard to keep track of all of them.

Interesting, I must have read it wrong. Any experience with Shortcutter? I'm wondering if ones better than the other or if they're comparable. Tiles is a purchase and Shortcutter is free for what I need it for, but I'm willing to spend money on a superior app.
