Problems casting Apps.... Chrome tab works fine

Hey guys,

So I've had my chromecast since the day it came out. I bought it while I was at home, and it worked flawlessly at home, so I took it to school with me. I live in a frat house and have pretty good Wi-Fi inside, when using my laptop the connection never goes out or sputters, it is very consistent and pretty fast. I figured using my chromecast there would work perfectly fine, but there are some issues. When I try casting apps such as youtube, google music, netflix, etc, the connection between the device and the chromecast will cut out, usually in the middle, or near the end of a stream.

For example, say I pull up a Youtube video on my phone and cast it to the TV. Once the video ends, the connection between the phone and the Chromecast cuts out, and I can't send another video to the chromecast. Other devices can't see the chromecast either. the only way for me to get it working again is by resetting the Chromecast.

Here's another scenario: Say I cue up an episode of something on netflix from my phone or tablet and cast it to the TV. the video will start playing, but midway through, my connection between the phone and the Chromecast cuts out and I can't pause or rewind or anything anymore, but the episode continues to play. Again, to do anything, I have to wait a while until the connection comes back, or reset the device.

Similar thing happens when I use google music... you get the picture.

Sometimes Ive noticed that when this happens, the chromecasts' LED light will flash, don't know if this means anything.

Also sidenote, when casting a chrome tab from my laptop, it actually works quite well, the connection never cuts out. Sometimes I resort to just casting a chrome tab to watch youtube videos or netflix shows rather than casting the app itself.

So can anyone pinpoint the problem? I haven't been able to test my chromecast on my home network again yet (I'm home for thanksgiving break, but forgot to bring my chromecast with me, maybe during christmas break....). Are there any settings I need to change to make it work properly? Other people I live with that also have chromecasts are having similar problems as well.

Thanks for your help!
