Proper screwdriver to remove battery?? Doesn't appear to be a #0

This may be a lost cause anyhow. I dropped my Nexus 4 into the toilet (clean water!!) today. I fished it out, was able to take the back off using instructions on YouTube.

The next step suggested was to remove the battery. I cannot get the two tiny Phillips screws out that hold the battery connector in. Supposedly, in the kit that I bought this afternoon, there is a #0 (which I have been told is the correct driver). The smallest screwdriver just doesn't "seat" properly. It feels like it is too big to grab the Phillips head.

In the past, when using a Phillips driver that didn't seat quite right, I have been able to tap (hard) on the driver's handle. That would often solve the problem. In this case, the driver head simply feels way too big. Whacking away at the tiny screw head on a plastic phone sounds like a disaster.

Can anyone confirm the correct size, and, if so, give me a reasonable source to buy one?

I intend to drop by both an eye doctor and an ear specialist tomorrow, assuming they have tiny tools and might help me out. But, I still need the correct tool if I am going to replace the battery with a new one.

While we are at it, has anyone successfully dried out a sunken Nexus 4 phone? It is in a bag of instant rice as we speak.

regards, and thanks Rich

Hey Rich,

Have you found a screwdriver that works on the phone? My mother did the same thing to her phone..

Cheers

Nope, never did find one that would work.

I did put the phone into a bag of rice. Took about three weeks and it finally works OK. Battery life is very short, probably due to my swiming experience. Ha Ha I bought another phone after the first week and before I knew that it was going to recover. Now I have a back-up.

It is probably the tri-blade tip that looks like a three bladed Phillips. Not sure what the official name is. I have one in the $15 computer/phone repair kit I bought on AliExpress

Always wondered why I couldn't find the proper driver. Of course, the kit that I bought at Radio Shack was a total waste of time. They probably didn't even know of the three bladed driver that you mention. richg99

ifixit.com sells most tools needed to repair any phone. They also have teardowns for most of the popular phones or tablets.

I just removed my battery yesterday. It required a #00 Phillips screwdriver, not the #0 I see listed various places for some reason. By applying heat from a hair dryer and then prying, and alternating between heat and prying several times, the battery was eventually released from the bionic glue underneath.

Here is the very detailed complete tear-down and battery removal procedure that I followed:
