Proximity /light sensor malfunction?

I've noticed that the proximity or light sensor (whichever the thunderbolt uses) only works maybe 2 out of every 10 times that I put the phone up to my ear, meaning that the screen doesn't turn off while I'm on a call, causing me to mute calls or dial other people mid-call.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is it just a matter of putting it up to a certain ear?

If it makes any difference, I'm rooted and running Das BAMF with Sense 3.0 RC4.9

Says there are no matches for that search. Ive been having this same issue lately--I hung up on someone 5 times because the phone screen still was lit with it up to my ear

The searches must time-out or something. Just search the forum for "proximity" (posts, not threads). You'll get a lot of hits.

Use canned air in the silver grill on the front of your phone above the verizon logo. It's said the sensor is closer to the headphone jack corner. Dust builds up in their and blocks the sensor. Worked like a charm for me.
