Proximity Sensor issues

I've had the Verizon S6 for a couple of days now. Yesterday I happened to slide the phone into my pocket and noticed I could still see light from the screen. Since then I've played around with the phone by holding my fingers securely over the sensors to see if the screen deactivates and played around with every setting I could think of to no luck.
I need to know if this is a bug, hardware defect, or intentional design decision (surely not) on Samsung's part? Anyone else experiencing this?

Dial *#0*# and check the sensors. Hover your hand around proximity sensor and see how it responds.

Well the sensor definitely works on phone calls. Guessing that means its a bug. If that's the case you'd think other people have to have noticed this. I've never had a problem just laying any previous phone face down on a table or sliding it into my pocket and screen not inatantly going dark before.
I can live with it because otherwise the S6 is amazing. Its just annoying having to be sure and hit the power button, every time, before pocketing the phone.

What phones have you had in the past? In my experience the only time the proximity sensor turns the screen off is when you're on the phone. My phones have never turned off just because I stuck it in my pocket, I've always had to turn it off myself before putting it in there. I just tested my S5 and it doesn't do it either. I've also owned the S4, Galaxy Nexus, and Droids 1-4. My S6 performs just like yours, but I think that's normal.

Droid 1 > Droid X > HTC Tbolt > Galaxy Nexus > Galaxy S3 > Note 2 > One M7 > Galaxy S6

Don't remember if they all did it but I'm fairly sure they did and I know for certain my HTC one did.

Ah ok. Well I don't think it's a bug. I think that's just how Samsung does it.
Edit: There are some apps that do that in the play store. You may want to try one of those, I think that's also further proof that most manufacturers don't make this a feature.

Face does not trigger proximity sensor.

I have some proximity issues too
When i use Facebook messenger for calling and when i bring my device to my ear the proximity works but the call disconnects ?
Is this some kind of bug ?
