Proximity sensor not working?

My One's display does not dim when phone is next to my ear. I'm constantly muting, enabling speaker or hanging up from the phone touching my face. Extremely annoying. Anybody else have this problem or know how to correct?

Test with finger over the sensors. If that doesn't turn off screen that's what warranties are for. Hope it works out.

Yes, I'm having major issues with this. I cannot seem to stop it, and most of the time it seems my screen is actually off.

Luckily, I barely make phone calls, but each time I do, I hang up on people, and accidentally turn on speaking phone, which blows out my ear drum.

This is one of the few issues where there's little you can do. I was once able to get some dust out from under the cover of the proximity sensor on.. a One X? Maybe it was the old Galaxy Nexus. Can't recall. I used a compressed air duster. They're great for clearing out speaker grilles as well. Short of that, however, I'd start to look for a replacement.

Accidentally ending a call on your end because of a faulty proximity sensor is incredibly frustrating, especially when you both try to call each other back.

Works 100% for me. Even knows when I pick it up to lower the volume. Return it and get angry at HTC.

Thanks for the replies. Really odd. My phone dims when I touch or hold my fingers as far away as about two inches form the sensors. When I'm holding my phone to my ear it does not dim though ?? Really frustrating as I love phone. This is my only real compaint. I can't get through a phone call! Please weigh in if you have any ideas.

One thing you can try is just pushing the upper grill down some more. It might work for a while.

I've had the same problem several time.

it isn't that the proximity sensor is faulty, it's just that it is too close to the top left edge..

and when you use your left ear most of the time it doesn't het covered fully.

I guarantee you that this only happens when you are somewhere that is very bright. For example standing under the sun, and the bright sun leaks through and causes the sensor to go crazy (off/on). Try your next call on your right ear and it won't happen.

we need to find a way to increase the sensitivity a bit on the sensor.

I was about to make a thread on that yesterday. Got my one 3 days ago, experienced similar problem in 5 calls I muted and put people on speaker phone without doing anything. I noticed screen is off but as someone noted about sensor it extends past you ear and I think that gap between where your phone is and the skull is big enough for it to switch on.

I do but its definitely not the cause because it end at the top of the screen and sensor it on the left of the speaker much higher than the screen

I have a problem as well with my Galaxy S3. When I am talking with somebody. Some times I turn the GPS and Wi-Fi on with my face.

I had this problem on my Galaxy S4, and I solved it using my wife super strong air drier near the earpiece. Its not the same phone but you can try an air drier on max / cold air.
