Purchase from Bestbuy, Radio Shack, or Sprint?

I am getting atsprint as they can bill me and there rebate is in El Paso and I am in Texas so it's alll good about rebates.

Make sure to read the rebate form details at sprintrebates dot com

If you buy a new phone under a new line and then swap it to another line in less than 30 days you may void the rebate and get billed the full price on your Sprint phone.

Even if you can't, you should be able to get it, activate it on her number then call up Sprint and have them switch the numbers.

Can someone verify this?

Yes and as others have mentioned NO. When the Palm Pre came out, my wife was eligible, I was not. I got the phone on her number. I had to use it on her # for a full month before I could switch back to my #. She rarely uses her phone so it wasn't that big of a deal.

But unless your willing to have a different phone #(IE your Mom's) for a month, this won't really be an option for you.

You can get it under the other number and switch it right away. The only thing that would hinder this is if you need a rebate. The phone has to be under the same number until you receive the rebate.

Yeah, interesting. They had told me that I had to keep it for 30 days for the rebate. I did buy it at sprint. I guess if you bought at BB or The Shack, you might be able to do it right away since they handle the rebate part for you. It's certainly worth looking into.

Yup. OP, remember to double and triple check with BB on what happens if you remove the phone from the line in under 30 days. You might see an interesting fee in your account as a result.

Getting an unexpected fee for a new phone is never a pleasant experience

I have to change my plan (and get employee discount) and buy this off contract...so I'm heading to Sprint.

Bump... Can I do that? Mom gets the Epic 4G in store, then I call up Sprint to have them switch numbers?

Just call Sprint and have them flop the upgrade status. Are you both on the same family plan? If so, it shouldn't be a problem - if not- then I'm not sure it will be as easy.

At Pre launch- My wife was due for a full upgrade, I was not- so I had them flop it so my wife picked up contract timing from my phone and she gave me her full upgrade availability.

THEN I went to BestBuy and it was no problem.

Took a few days for the upgrade flop to happen in the computer (you can check your account online)

This can be done, but a lot of reps don't know how to do this so you may have to try a few reps. They may tell you that it can take up to a whole billing cycle for this to happen.

Tell them if it can't get sorted out- you'll like to talk to retention then- if you can't get an Epic at launch- one of you will go to verizon for the boatload of droid phones they're releasing.

Got my issues straightened out in 3 days in time for the Evo launch.

Sounds about right. I had to go through about as many hoops to get the switch too. My youngest brother was the primary account holder and he qualified for the annual new phone discount and not me.... Took a few calls to get it swapped to the correct order.

BB all the way!!!! Geek Squad protection plan is great. 9.99 a month for no deductible and unlimited returns. and no mail in rebate. i only step foot in the sprint store to pay my bill and that usually turns out as a fail because the machine doesn't give change?

Went from the Pre to the Moment? Was the phone that bad for you?
I still have the Pre. Surprisingly, thanks to the webOS updates, the phone doesn't lag as much.

I love android. I don't miss my Pre at all. it was well worth the switch. it was the hardware that i didnt like. I loved the OS but the power button died on two pres i had. I didnt want to deal with it anymore

I went from Pre to Hero, and I can tell you, yes, WebOS was that bad. 5 phones in 5 months, all my contacts lost during an update, 6 hours battery life with a phone in my pocket during work. Hero, although laggy, still much better. I like my variety of apps, widgets, versitility. I can't wait to upgrade to this phone, should take care of my lag and problems with games/videos.

This is actually what is driving me to the EPIC over the EVO. The Pre does feel slow It's faster than the iPhone 3G, but slower than the 3GS. The slow feel of the Pre does get annoying, but I am concerned about the reliability of the EPIC 4G. Those slowdowns people are reporting and the GPS.... Simply not acceptable for me.

Have you actually USED the warranty? I hear you may be WEEKS without a smartphone- they often try to fix the unrepairable ("we're waiting for a part to come in") where sprint will simply send you a reconditioned one within 2-3 days. Blackberries at BB are different- they just give you a new one.

I'd really like to hear from people that have had successful warranty claims with Best Buy as I really HATE sprint these days and want to deal with them as little as possible. Shame their plan pricing is so good or I'd have left a long time ago.

Webos is a great OS. Im sure if they get their act together under the protection and funding of HP that in a year or so it will be > android. But aI cannot rely on a hunch, nor can I wait around for them to get their act together. I need a phone that has hardware and software that works well all the time. 90% of my problems have to do with hardware. But I will admit that webOS is definitely rough around the edges and needs some more time. Also more customization would be great too.

Well in 5 months you will have paid the deductible and they will start making money off you. I pay insurance through sprint and 9/10 phones we have gotten warranty work or replacements done were 100% free. My brother did get a bad rep and had to pay $50 for a phone he left in his pocket while jumping in a pool.

I've had the Black Tie for about a year and I have returned 7 phones and never once had to pay a deductible. Although one time i smashed my pre and I had a loner blackberry for about a month. Which didn't bother me (it was my first blackberry). The only time you do get a loner is if its physical damage and in that case sprint usually makes you pay a deductible.

BTW I had the protection through sprint for about a year and no one could convince me that theirs is better.
