Purchasing at Best Buy Store Discussion

There's that fella that got his Samsung Intercept from Best Buy a week early. Who knows. ;)

Sure, its possible some BB employee is going to slip up and sell the phone before 8/31 when they aren't suppose to. However, if the BB employees follow the policy as they are suppose to, those who preordered aren't going to be able to walk into the store a day or two early and get the phone even if its in stock. Have to wait until launch day on 8/31/10, preordered or not.

I'm sure we'll see a mistake or two pop up. However it's just that. Sprint would most likely come down on whatever store pretty hard for the mistake.

The Evo and the Pre ESN's were not able to be activated in the system until the official launch days. I can see that being a possibility for the Epic too.

BB will not sell you the phone early (at least they are not suppose to). It isn't against some "law" but it is against their's and/or Sprint's policy to sell it to you before 8/31/10. No doubt BB/RS/WM/Sprint is going to get the phone in stock a few days early as it would be foolish for them to have it delivered on launch day - shipment could potentially get delayed and they would have a lot of upset customers. If they "set it up on the computer" then that means the phone is activated and capable of being used on the network, which again Sprint doesn't want to happen before 8/31 for the general public. When you pickup your device from BB on launch day, BB will activate for you in the store as they are required to do.

true enough I still would sell it once we got them in lol im just impatient I was confident their was no "law" but ya know they throw 'Policy" around like its the law - I don;t see the "big" deal about selling it early but some people are anal

I was surprised to find out the 1st on sale dates for Vibrant and Captivate were not the official launch dates- which was why their launches were so soft. (few if any demos set up - no in store ads/pop) According to the Sprint playbook- Epic is being handled like another high profile launch *(but why Tuesday?) so I doubt early. I really wish they'd launch it this friday however. I'm a lot more patient in line when I don't have work the next day.

Why Tuesday? Good question. Maybe, just maybe the stores will start getting them in on Friday and they set the launch for TUES so they can overnight MON for TUE to any stores who's packages are delayed? I know if I was sprint, I wouldn't send out a bunch of packages and try to time them so they all got there just 1 day before launch.

So, who is gonna be the lucky person to buy one on Fri/Sat and just not activate it till Tues?

when i talked to my sprint rep he said that they would get them in thurs or friday and will have display unit set up but no sales will be done untill 8/31. I leave for Disney on thurs and would have loved to have this phone and its features to play with.:p

Review units come from Sprint corporate in Kansas City already activated, so do advocate units, not activated at the store level... I stand by what I said.

They can be activated TRUST! - not "suppose"
to but WE can! Just not sure its worth the write up i.e FIRED!

pics or it didn't happen.

/God, I love saying that

I like saying prove it or BS better :p Well, it doesn't really matter at this point anymore. The Epic is just around the corner and getting one early is not going to be as big of a deal as getting a review unit 4 months early that you can keep.

I preordered an Epic 4g yesterday at a Best Buy. The employee told me that there haven't been a huge number of preorders at that particular store, which is surprising. Hopefully I'll get one on launch day.

I also got the chance to hold a non-functioning demo Epic 4g. I'm not sure if I really need the physical keyboard (which felt great, by the way), but the added thickness makes the phone more comfortable to hold.
