purchasing the Nexus but need some imput from those that have one

Hi everyone,

I finally decided to pick one up (in the next few days) and have some questions for those of you who already have one.

First, I want to be able to shut off notifications at night (text, email) but keep the ringtone on for calls. I currently use Quick Profiles on my Charge. Does it work on the GN? If not, is there a way to shut notifications off easily in ICS?

Secondly, I use the desktop charger at night and use the phone as my alarm clock. Is there an app in ICS to do this as well. I know there isn't a desktop charger for the GN as of now but I am sure they will be making one.

I played with the GN numerous times in the store and I could not seem to get an answer from any of the workers (no one seems to have one yet).

Thanks,

Re: purchasing the Nexus but need some imput from those that have

There is another thread about the inability to turn off notifications but still have the ringer on.

As for the desktop charger/alarm clock question I assume you mean you want to put the phone into a desktop clock mode? If so you can open the app drawer and tap on clock. This shows a clock on the screen and your background image. Tap the screen and the background will go black and the clock will dim. I believe this is the desktop mode. You can set your alarm from this same screen. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply.

I believe I posted in that thread but no one answered if Quick Profiles worked (in ICS) or if you could shut off notifications but not the ringer. I will do another search on it.

Thanks again Danv.

Found an app called Ringleader Pro which solves the problem in ICS and let's you shut off notifications without silencing the ringer.

Did you test the app? I see reviews saying it resolves the problem.
I just tried it. I set it to turn off notifications then sent myself a text. I heard it just fine.

I don't have the phone yet so I cannot test it. I was making sure I could silence the notifications before I get the phone.

Poolshark, you installed the app and it did not work? You still get the notification sounds when you silence them?

Yes, I tried it. I turned off notifications, sent myself a text and I heard it. That was the free version.
With the paid version I turned off notifications and it set the phone to vibrate.
I think the people who gave the reviews saying it works are basing that solely on the visual separation of the ringer and notification volumes without actually testing it.

Thank you for testing the app out. I read in another forum you can create a silent mp3 ringtone and then use a program (like that one) to change it at night. Make a "night" profile and then set the notification ringtone as the silent one. I guess that will be the only way to do what I need to have done at night.

Thanks again for testing that out.

I use my Nexus as my alarm clock works great. I wish they had a dock for it.

I keep all of my notifications on silent/vibrate only, so I can't help you with changing your settings to ring the phone only at night.

My friends and family know not to contact me in the middle of the night unless it's important.
