Q1 iPhone to Verizon

From what I'm reading, this sounds like an LTE phone. I love the screen on the iPhone 4, but prefer everything else on the Incredible. I think I'll wait to see the Android LTE phones. With so many different hardware vendors creating Android phones, I can't see Apple having the continued success with the iPhone on Verizon unless they really re-create the thing. As many folks have pointed out, there's nothing really new or exciting about the iPhone 4.

you prefer the music player on the android? u perfer the ease of syncing music from ur computer to yur android?

i think not cuz android is FAILING on music side of the phone thats my only real gripe bout android

Yes, I prefer the fact that I can hook my phone up to ANY computer and load the music I want on it to be a huge benefit to the "one computer" lockdown of itunes. If you want a single computer sync, you can get doubletwist and it will do it for you

As for music players. Mixing/double twist player are both excellent choices. Stock android is kinda meh, but the beauty of android is you're not STUCK with stock.

wow...how arrogant to think what YOU prefer should apply to everyone.

Yeah sounds like he should explorer the wide options with Android and music. Doubletwist has solved most things, along with many many different music players.

This would kill Android sales if this were true.:(

a january release of the iphone would kill all holiday sales, which is why it won't happen.

And I don't think an iphone release on verizon would kill android sales in general. While there are some people who are buying it as a "alternative" there are a lot of people buying android for android, or now that they have it, won't be interested in the iphone anymore.

true but never say never (oops, i said it :p).

with verizon launching their LTE in November, anything can happen at this point. I just read an article that they might be expecting LTE phones (yes phones, not 'handsets'), before 2011. take it for what it's worth. i didn't think we'd start hearing of LTE phones till 2011 and of course the biggest way for Apple to slow down Android sales is to release an LTE branded iPhone asap.

I like Android better but i still like the iPhone as well so more choices are welcome.

January is the WORST month for cellphone sales. November/December are by far the best.

If they released a verizon iphone in january, they would have to announce it in november/december, which would DESTROY holiday sales, and not every lost sale would get the iphone (they would expect it to be bogo, or not require date, etc). It would flood their warehouses with returned phones, and kill all their other holiday launches (rumored Droid Pro, most likely a high end HTC phone, the release of Gingerbread for google).

Verizon releases flagship phones in the fall (october-november) and in the summer. a January release is out of that sync, and out of apple's sync. not to mention verizon spent a lot of money building interest in android. They wouldn't cannibalize android sales just to satisfy apple. Remember, verizon has no NEED for the iphone, but apple needs verizon if they want to take over another market, so the phone will be released on verizon's time table, not Apple's.

Also, that would give apple's iphone 4 a lifecycle of only 6 months before it was obsolete, which is counter to apple's development process as well.

It could happen, but it would be counter to everything verizon's done to this point, and would make their Customer service/stores a living hell for everyone who worked in one over the holiday season.

Launching an iphone in january makes about as much sense as launching the next hot toy in january. You missed the prime selling months, and you pissed a lot of people off. Never good.

LTE...that is what makes me nervous. I am happy we still have unlimited with VZW but that could change with the introduction of LTE. I want to be able to be grandfathered in with my unlimited data plan. By switching to an LTE phone, that could change correct? In any case I REALLY REALLY like my DInc.:)

Yes, if you switch to an LTE phone/plan you cannot carry over 3g unlimited

And you know this how? How do you know Verizon won't offer the same packages they do now. I think it's too early to tell don't you?

Because one of the reasons Verizon is changing over to LTE (Besides for the increase speed) is because once in place, it is MUCH cheaper to send data so they want to use it for everything (even voice will become VOIP). But because everything is faster, it will be much easier to USE massive ammounts of data, and with sites like netflix, hulu, etc offering full HD streaming, Unlimited data is financial suicide.

Because EVERY press release from Verizon talking about LTE mentions that unlimited data is not sustainable, and that 4g will bring new tiered pricing plans.

On top of that, several other press releases state that in the future, instead of buying "plans" and "features" and doing things like add a lines, instead what you'll do is purchase a bucket of data and use it however, and on as many devices, as you'd like.

So no, it's not too soon (considering 4g will most likely launch this year/early next). I got the information by keeping tabs on press releases and interviews. They will NOT let you keep your unlimited plan and give you access to their 4g (though it might be possible to get unlimited for 3g still)

Interesting, but I still say it's too soon to 'announce' what they will offer. In the end nobody will find out until it's released. Besides, unlimited doesn't mean everyone is using massive amounts of data per month, I have unlimited and since gaining WiFi I might use 2GB a month if that. And as far as Netflix/Hulu goes they aren't even available, yet, on the mobile platforms. I see Hulu going mobile with a paid app, Netflix may end up being included.

However at the end of the day we don't have unlimited now, there is a soft limit at 5GB.

I've used 7gigs in a month before, non tethered. No issues.

4g is about planning for the future. Hulu and netflix are coming, and not everyone will use the data.

And data caps are never about the average user, they are about the power user.

Hard data caps are coming, the only question is when and what the cap will be.

Saying you didn't have issues doesn't mean much though. There was a number of stories published a while back, one of them where a student went over his data usage tethering his blackberry and his parents ended up getting like an $8k bill. Not sure why or how they picked him out of the herd because I used to use upwards of 8-10GB every month. Either way I agree data caps are coming when, where, and how much we don't know. We don't know if anyone will be grandfathered in (which I highly doubt) or how much the data will be. The point I was making is don't make it matter of factly because you don't really know and nobody will until it's here.

Personally if they want to cap me to 10GB a month but I can use it anyway I want I would welcome it.

I think a lot of people are forgetting about income season in january through April,so people will have some money around that time.
