At least they are saying for now.. However it does not look bright in the future for any current Snapdragon devices to support this feature.

I've found the "BlockBuster" app quite useful.

It's because Netflix is more worried about DRM than their users. Streaming video works just fine on the Evo/Dinc/Desire/N1.

Don't believe for a minute that's it's a hardware issue, because it's not.

I could care the less, I watch movies on my 42inch Sony bravia!

sent from my Evo 4g using tapatalk pro
I hear ya, I watch movies on my 55 inch toshiba lcd flat screen, why the hell would I ever want to watch a movie on a phone. Lol. I don't get it. If I absolutely feel this need to cozy up to my eVo and watch a movie, blockbuster will be just fine.

Evo-lution

While I don't think I'd use the app a whole lot, I think it would be a great addition to extend the value of my Netflix subscription, as I could see some instances where it would come in handy.

However I wouldn't pay for another service just to access it.

They are doing that as a plan to sell new phones. Look at it like this the Evo has the same features as the new phone that are coming accept for dual-core. they know we've been waiting for the app for the past few months now they got us all worked up when it came out for the cry-phone and then they said it was coming for Android. so much time had past they just kept pushing it back saying oh its coming or we are still working on it then the last statement was only a few of the phones that's out now the app will work for. Now after the all talk of the dual-core they said hey lets help sell more phone by saying the current snapdragons can't handle the app you need a new phone smdh. Pretty much that's all their saying is to go out and pay 600 - 700 for a new phone.

Well, technically, to qualify that statement.... it's not a hardware where the device is incapable of streaming. It's a hardware issue to support the DRM requirements. Netflix will not certify the already released snapdragon processors.

Well, think for a minute.

  • Netflix uses microsot's silverlight online and via xbox.
  • They are constantly dragging thier feet and sputtering half-witted excuses on an android app, yet they rushed one out for microjunk phones.
  • Microsnot views Android with the same contempt they have for Linux.
  • And now Netflix claims they "might" develop an app for dual core CPU Android phone.

Is it just me or does 1+1 = 2 ???

Ummmmm why would I pay that much money to watch a POS B rate movie or TV shows I can watch on my TELEVISION. . . . It's a phone for pete sake not a TV

I can't believe I can get Netflix on my 2nd generation iPod Touch, but not on my EVO's big beautiful screen. I work at night, 12 hour shifts, and Netflix helps the night go by. I don't always want to lug out my 15" laptop. Also, I want to be able to use it with 3G, as well as wifi. My Virgin Mobile WiFi works wonders when I need it though. I would love to get Netflix on my rooted Nook Color ! God I love that thing now !! Still afraid to root my EVO. All I want is forced roaming damn it !!

It's not necessarily a question of certification on already released snapdragon processors - it's quite possible that the additional DRM instruction set isn't supportable on the current snapdragon CPUs.

you can stream netflix and hulu on your Evo if you're willing to get up PlayOn. It's not very difficult and it kicks a lot of ass. My only gripe with it is that it doesn't handle multitasking at all. You close out of playon and you have to go back through all the menus again, clearly a quick port from iPhone. I'm sure that will get fixed though.

yeah, I myself don't even watch much television but last night is a perfect example for me for when you would wish you had it. After a very long day my 6 year old was tired and cranky and didn't feel good. Had about a 40minute drive home so I just setup The Simpsons and it helped him forget how tired and cranky he was. :)
