Question about the CM camera app

Ok this is weird.... I swapped batteries out. When i restarted it the htc camera is back and the other camera isn't there. O_o

Should I delete the HTC camera first then install the camera.apk? I think I goofed. I just installed the apk over the HTC one.

Edit: I see htccamera.apk in the system/apps section. Delete that one?

Yea delete that and then the new camera...

I have a feeling it wont work though... Something with the CM Kernel VS Sense Kernel you know?

I think there could be a way to make it work though, I'm just not smart enough.

After all Vingette will work on both, I just wonder if it's using some type of API from either the htc camera app or the stock app or if it's directly accessing the hardware?

Is there a big difference between the CM camera and Vignette? I am running Fresh 3.3 and Vignette is worlds better than stock

ok another weird thing.. so I went to system/apps and tapped on htccamera.apk and its asking me to install it... When I go to the app drawer the only camera app there IS the HTC camera app... could that camera.apk you sent me be the htccamera app?

someone post the apk. I'm sure i can get it working .... or at least give it the old college try

Nope its directly from the CM6 Stable

When you take on it in Root Explorer you get certain options try long pressing on it... ;)

you should get more options

Here's the camera.apk No matter what I try it wont work. I got the htc camera app to uninstall and installed the camera.apk and it force closes every time.

This is the link I gave you right?

If so its just the APK Straight from CM6 pulled it right out of System/apps

Let us know what you can do KSmith

Yup that's the camera.apk you gave me. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed =D

The stock HTC camera is fine IMO. We should concentrate on video recording. Does the CM video recording better or worse than stock?

The stock htc camera app is ok. I used it to take all my pics during my vacation to pr. But, the camera app in CM is definitely better. I hate the UI in the CM camera app, but it is better. I agree with the video recording. That seriously need to be addressed. Unfortunately, there's no improvement that I can tell with the CM video camera app. The frame rate is still pathetic. I've yet to record a video even in broad daylight with a framerate over 24fps. There's no reason why all the other high end phones can do 30fps and the Evo can't. Especially considering the actual camera in the Evo is capable of 720p@60fps. Granted, it'll never be able to do that because of the processor, but there's absolutely no excuse that it can't do 30fps. Also the image stability is HORRIBLE. Again, even in great lighting conditions outside in the sun there's still studder. Tie that with ****ty framerate capture the video capture on the Evo is pure fail.. On XDA there was a really long thread that unfortunately died out about this subject. Someone mentioned they think htc is using a generic driver and application for the camera/camcorder app instead of a dedicated driver specific for the camera on the Evo. They found out that when the camcorder was being used, it was calling out to a Qualcomm driver instead of an Omni driver (Omni is the camera manufacture). I wouldn't be surprised. htc would definitely do that. I love htc but they definitely half *** a lot of ****. I really hope someone can unleash what the Evo is really capable of in the video recording area... Let me not even start with the audio capture.. 8k bitrate? Seriously ****ing htc?????? I'm even more surprised that nobody has at LEAST changed the audio codec while recording.

Alright guys sorry for the delay. I tinkered with this for a few minutes last night and I believe there may need to be an edit to the framework to make it work. I could be wrong, as I said I only had a couple of min, but that's a good place to start thinking about anyway.

Unfortunately, I'm involved with 2 ROM projects and just got my Google app inventor approval yesterday so this has to be put on the back burner for me but I encourage you to continue pursuing it! If I have an epiphany about something I'll let you know.
