ok so I have the s9+ and its not paid off I have 4 lines but how dose the trade in credit work is it in full on a gift card or small amounts over 24 months?
Depends on how it's set up with carrier, if it's lease program then no you can't trade it off. If it's like Verizon under a device payment program then you can. The Verizon type is basically like a credit card charge, it's unsecured credit, you own the phone, can do what you want with it, but you still have to pay it off, even if you no longer have the phone, they will take you to collections just like a credit card would.I thought it had to be paid off in order or trade it in. Maybe I’m wrong

I can tell you for a fact with Verizon, you are approved for a set amount of credit based on your credit report when you sign up, I have all s9 plus and note 9 phones, 10 of them, I'm $800 to my credit limit for new phones.
