is there a way to change the notification so the phone vibrates/makes its designated sound more than once? i'm continually missing the notification of new messages and only finding them by looking at the top left status notification section. any help on this one?

one way would be to simply have a longer audio file as the notification sound. You can't set them as easily as a ringtone, but there is a workaround. You can attach your phone to your pc/mac with USB and open EITHER the internal memory or the microSD memory. You will most likely need to create the following folders in whichever location you choose:

media > audio > notifications

then just throw whatever audio files you want as a notification in there. You will have to disconnect your phone before it can use the memory again. I actually did this about 15 mins ago to get the Moto Droid's "DROOOOOOID" sound as my notification.

note: you can also create a similar folder for ringtones
media > audio > ringtones

hope this helps!

I don't know the answer to his question, but just to clarify what I thought he meant -

He's asking if there is a way to enable the sound to go off more than once. Like if he was not next to his phone when the first sound went off, but in 10 minutes if unchecked, it would go off again.

that is what the little blinking LED on the front is for ;)

But I don't know of any way to have the phone ring again if it has notifications waiting. Then again, I don't think I have been able to do that with any phone I have ever had.

Got the volume cranked? :)

indeed i do.

this is not what i meant. i'm looking for the phone to beep (and vibrate) more than once on the initial notification. the LED indicator isn't the best, but that coupled with the top left is enough if i miss the initial notification. but when the phone is in my pocket i don't feel it vibrate to alert to a new text or email and, if i'm out and about in the city, don't necessarily hear it either. the end result is me constantly checking my phone to see if there are any new messages i've missed.

I have the same problem and this is really my only complaint about the phone, I never know if I have a email or text while the phone is on vibrate because I can never feel the vibrate. I am constantly having to check the screen.

haha.. this shows that I both don't have my incredible yet (ordered 5/14 so it'll pry be a while), and that I suck at understanding posts. Double fail lol

Use a 3rd party app for messaging to get better vibe options. I use the stock app in addition to SMS Popup. A lot of peeps use Handcent which gives a ton of notification options.

Handcent works great for that. I have mine set to a certain length and pattern of vibrate, a long audible (you can create one as long as you like) and it repeats as long as I set it for, waking the device and doing the vibrate + audio again until I dismiss it.

What about for a visual notification? I just want the screen to light up.

You could try an old trick us Omnia users used to use for the battery charge tones. Save a silent sound clip (I can try to find my old one if you need it) and in Handcent set the vibrate to off and the alert tone to silent. You should have repeating alarms then doing nothing but waking the screen up.

looks like handcent only works for SMS/MMS - does it work for e-mails as well?

I have been struggling with notifications since I got the EVO:

I have:

Facebook - app
Twitter - app
3 Mail accts.
SMS - Handcent ( I really hate this app, but it turns the screen on when msg. come through).

I had to set my Facebook to get SMS message because the app won't notify. The twitter app has suddenly stopped giving me updates on new tweets. Even though I have it running in background.

The email never refreshes in my 5 min. set time...although when I get the mail it notifies me.

So basically, I am just ranting. Have a nice day.

That's a smart idea but I've grown to love the stock messaging app :(
