Really excited about getting my second Android phone. I started with the G1, but due to issues with T-Mobile, I left and got an iPhone 3G, then went to the iPhone 4.

Now that I am sufficiently bored with iOS, I want to come back to Android. I'm stuck between an infuse and a Atrix.

I really like the Infuse hardware, but I HATE the way TouchWiz looks. I think that out of all the Android UI skins that TouchWiz has to be the fugliest. With that said, do you guys think it will be easy to root it, and put stock gingerbread on it? I really want a stock experience. I'm assuming it will be pretty easy, I've stalked the captivate forums and if memory serves, it didn't take the dev team long to get root on it.

My other question is, and I know this has been beat to death, but I want to hear it from people who are interested in the infuse, between the Atrix and the Infuse, which one should I get? I really like the infuse hardware, but I'm not so sure about Samsung. I have had mixed results with them in the past, but I have never had one of their smart phones.

I really can't wait to try this thing in the store!

well like you i am interested in the infuse i have an atrix now and love it but im always chasing the newest things i love to play and try all the phones im a total tech junkie.

i personally just use launcher pro and never mess with any ui skins i hate them all. but have no interest in rooting my daily drivers as i need my phone 24/7 for work and cant risk it not work (dreaded days of the old storm 1)

i think it will def. get rooted but when is anyones guess.

i personally love samsung smartphones i have used the captivate and fascinate both excellent build quality their only issue was slow updates but i think they learned their lesson. my favorite two android manufacturers are motorola and samsung. Motorola has more solid feeling hardware as they use a lot of metal components on their phones and strong screens, samsung is usually always plastic but it is so solid that it does not bother me.

About to ask a major noob question, feel free to tease. So if I choose the infuse, and I want to get rid of touchwiz, I don't have to root? I can just download launcher pro?

thats not really getting rid of touchwiz but it will let you run a different launcher so you wont see the touchwiz launcher

Nah, I want to completely get rid of it. I think stock gingerbread on a 4.5" screen would be bliss.

Well a developer would have to make a custom rom and even in a custom rom touchwiz is never really gone since its tied in so deeply.

Seriously? That sucks. I just, I can't like TouchWiz. It's so ugly looking. I hate how they made it look like a iPhone, that's exactly what I'm trying to get rid of.

Well, if I were to get the Atrix, does blur remove easily or is it embedded too?

if its the look of it just use launcher pro like mentioned, or wait for a custom rom to come out

Just read a review that said the Infuse doesn't have a notification light, is this true? I'll be kinda sad if it doesn't.

It doesn't have a notification led on the front, but madmack over at xda developers created an app last year called NoLED that makes use of the AMOLED display by turning the backlight on and flashing a colored dot somewhere at the top left of the screen. He's diminished the resources needed to run it. You can read more about it here... [APP] NoLED v4.3.2 - Use the AMOLED screen for incoming notifications - xda-developers

I don't like that it's missing a notification light either. I just don't understand why companies can't get things together on one smartphone. Anyway, I don't know if madmack has updated the app or if there are other similar ones available, but I hope so. I count on those light notifications. Samsung seems to insist on omitting this basic feature from their lineup. I guess you can't get it all in one phone, but the Infuse still looks and sounds like an awesome beast of a phone, so this isn't a deal breaker for me.

That's what is starting to annoy me. I like the Atrix, but it can't side load. Yea I can root it, and get side load, but would be nice if that wasn't necesary. I like the Infuse, a lot, but it doesn't have dual-core or a notification light. *sigh. I wonder if AT&T will let me get a early upgrade to this phone...

Yep, me too and I don't think we're alone. I could be wrong but, I think the manufacturers deliver products just shy of offering everything we want because then we'll keep buying their products. I can see Samsung adding the notification light when they think they've made us wait long enough. Ahh capitalism. It's almost as if the manufacturer's can't decide whether they should give us entertainment or productivity but, one thing is for sure, they don't want to give us both in one phone. Aside from all that, I'm so happy not to be dealing with RIM and the chronic broken BB syndrome. Android is the best thing going, in my opinion anyway.

You don't have to root the Atrix to side load. Install the Sideload Wonder Machine! http://forum.androidcentral.com/and...-central-sideload-wonder-machine-v-1-2-a.html You can sideload to your heart's content without rooting.

If AT&T won't let you upgrade, you might try Costco. They're all about selling you another phone so maybe they can influence AT&T.

Man, I completely forgot about the Atrix when I saw the infuse today. There is no way I would get the atrix now. The infuse is just too awesome.

well one i love my infuse.

and yes sorry when i originally said that about launcher pro it will not remove it entirely but it drastically changes the look and and really improves functionality and without rooting an alternate launcher is the best you can really hope for.

it is nice to be able to sideload again right on the device but supposedly they will be allowing it on the atrix and inspire with future updates which are rumored to start as early as tomorrow.

Could you give more detail on how launcher pro inproves functionality on the Infuse? Is there any risk by installing Launcher pro in the Infuse? I got the phone and I love it the way it is, but since I am new with smartphones I don't know what I may be missing. Thanks for any help in this matter.

I'm new to android so I'm learning a lot playing with the infuse. I installed launcher pro last night and I think it will become my default. The main reason I like it better than stock is you can add additional rows and columns for icons. I'm used to having five icons across from my jb iPhone and like the ability to change that. I also like the look of the dock better on launcher pro. Also loving widget locker for lock screen customization. I didn't like the default at all.

I ran out of time yesterday to go pick it up, so I'm going to try to get to Costco tonight. I can't wait for a larger screen! My only concern is, I tend to keep my phones for 2-3 years, so I try to get the most technically current phone hoping it will last me. That's where my hesitation comes from. With Blackberry, as soon as you pick one up, they come out with another -better- phone and stop updating the phone you bought. It's criminal. They should be in jail! lol
