Questions for those on AT&T

I too had to do nothing. Took the SIM out of my HP Veer and put it in the Nexus, worked immediately.

It seems that most of you aren't having significant problems; thank you for sharing your experiences. My question (particularly for former Atrix 4G users): have you noticed any change in your data rates since getting your unlocked GN? I typically get 1.5-4.0 Mbps down and 0.9-1.1 Mbps up in my area and would like to see an improvement (or maintain status quo, at least). Thanks!

Replaced my Atrix 4G w/ the Gnex. My data rates actually increased (same SIM card). ATT installed a dedicated cell site in my office so it's pretty close to having a good control tower for ookla's speedtest app. On my Atrix I got 6mbps max. On my Nexus, I get as high as 9mbps (and hit 11mbs once).

I took the microSIM out of my iphone 4S, put into my unlocked Galaxy Nexus, and it worked right away no issues. Didn't have to enter any settings, it just worked.

(you can get the microSIM working in a GNex without an adpater, just takes careful positioning, but once in place, it stays there)

I have a SkyRocket right now but my Google Galaxy Nexus should be here this week. Will I need a different SIM card? I have the larger size right now??

If my SIM will work should I just try to put my SIM in and see if it works?

Changing the APN settings work, albeit there a few hiccups.

From what I dealt with, the Galaxy Nexus is not an officially supported phone through AT&T thus they have no profile on their end so they see it as an unknown device. I'm using my Skyrocket as a placeholder for their end.

When you say change the APN settings what does that mean?

Full size SIM will work fine for both. Your services should also work just fine. If you have data issues, verify the APN (see below).

I switch between T-Mo and AT&T semi frequently so sometimes I have to set this manually. Usually it happens automatically though. When you swap the SIM, voice and SMS almost always work automatically. Data however sometimes doesn't and you have to go to your Settings>Mobile Network>Access Point Names and type in the relevant fields. For me, I just type in:

T-Mo: epc.tmobile.com
AT&T: wap.cingular

...and that does it.

That said, it gets a little sticky when you're talking about provisioning a new SIM for your GNex. It sounds like it's working relatively well for some people, but I'd be uneasy provisioning as a BB since unless it's a BBOS7 device, HSPA+ data may not be enabled and you may see slower speeds on your Nexus. Not that it's relevant to the GNex, but for example if you provisioned a SIM in an HSPA+ phone like the iPhone 4S and tried using it in an LTE phone, you won't see LTE since that SIM isn't provisioned for LTE data.

I'd also add that it scares me to death that some of you are sticking a microSIM into the miniSIM slot on the GNex...it would really suck to mess up your SIM slot:( That said, some adapters are just as if not more dangerous. I paid $10 for my adapter which is a lot for a thin piece of plastic, but it works like a dream!

I had also bought an adapter (it came from Austria and was pretty high quality), but all the same I chose to have AT&T provision a new SIM for me. They didn't have any issues with it at all, everything is working as it should.

Lol I think we have the same one from Austria. Someone had recommended it on one of the Mobile Nations forums...don't remember which though=/. I need to keep it a microSIM cause I switch it between my Nexus, Lumia 710, and iPad...I really wish the SIM standard would be more...well...standard.

Pretty good adapter though. I did put it to use last night while I was testing out my new Galaxy Nexus. I will keep the adapter though, as my sister and a few others I know of have iPowns. Never know when that adapter may come in handy!

I just swapped out the sim from my iphone 4 and used an adapter. I have 4 laying around, I bought off the 'egg a while ago.

The GN is slightly faster both in Wifi and 3G which makes sense since the i4 is 2 years old.(No changes to APN settings made)

I did check with my local At&t store to get an Hspa+ provisioned Sim. He suggested to wait till I was using the GN full time since the i4 will not recognize an Hspa+ Sim....Can anyone confirm or deny this info? If that is the case, I was unaware of it and will probably just keep the Hspa Sim.

I'm by no means an expert but this doesn't sound right. A SIM that is provisioned on HSPA+ can handle HSPA 3G and EDGE just fine. Idk if it's an iPhone 4 specific thing though.

It surprised me...I'll ask them to provision a micro sim so I don't have to cut it down to test it. He did confirm that it would be no charge.

Or someone with an Hspa+ sim just needs to stick it in hspa phone. I don't think I'll be going back to the i4 so the next time I am near the store I'll get the new sim and try it right away to see if I can disprove it.

How's the sound quality on the unlocked G-Nex?

The speaker is on the quiet side. Adding an app like volume+ $1.99 fixes it up. Now its very loud.

All the other audio,....headphones, Bluetooth a2dp sounds as good as i4 so its good.

A couple things I ended up having to do yesterday regarding AT&T: I called them the first time yesterday because I had no voicemail feature, they took care of that for me. Last night I received a text and email stating my data usage had exceeded my limit and I was over by more than $50. I said "WTF??" So I call them again. Turns out that when the new SIM was provisioned and the new device was added, it pretty much erased everything short of my actual calling plan. They took care of that data plan too, and backdated it so I wouldn't be charged any actual overages. Something I wasn't expecting to have happened, but it was all taken care of. So all is well :D
