*Quick* Galaxy s9 or Pixel 3?

Have fun with your Pixel purchase OP, but to me, I think the Galaxy S9 (and S10 around the corner) are better overall devices.

I think the Pixel appeals to a very small, very specific set of consumers and the Galaxy appeals to a much broader range of consumers.

I think the camera on the Pixel is better than the S9, but you'll only notice the difference if you're comparing them side by side. Picture quality isn't a *huge* step up, it's just a little bit better. S9 and every other flagship on the market all have excellent cameras overall. The Pixel has terrible audio in its video recording, so if you record video a lot, I'd steer clear from the Pixel.

Hopefully the camera, 'stock' experience (which imo hasn't been good since android 9.0 Pie) and fast updates are extremely important to you, because that's all the Pixel 3 has going for it. However if you prefer a less buggy, overall better experience with more polished hardware/software, then I would have gone with the Galaxy. The Pixel 3 feels like a beta device to me. I'm surprised at the staggering number of serious issues the phone has and how slow Google have been to fix them. I'm expecting this December patch to be huge with a tonne of fixes.
I'm going to see how everything turns out. I still have my S9 so if I decide the pixel just isn't for me at least then I still have this to fall back on. Kind of in a win-win for me right now .

I have seen some of the renders for the S10 and it sure does look like it is going to be an awesome device! I really just wish they would stop with the curved display though. I've noticed that some things just aren't formatted for the screen so some of the text gets cut.

The S9 doesn't have a bad camera at all. It just doesn't seem to be suiting my needs at the moment. I have wiggle worms as children so being able to capture the perfect shot more often than not has me very, very intrigued! And the night shot thing just seems crazy amazing! If Samsung incorporated something like that into the galaxy line I'd be all in! The pixels design isn't nearly as "premium looking" as my S9 and lacks some of Samsung's luxuries but I'm going to give it a whirl.

I haven't had the privilege of fast updates or stock since Samsung devices have pretty much been the only line of android phones I've used, so there's nothing that I'd miss if I ended up just keeping my S9.

If someone doesn't mind Samsung's base UI or the new One then go with the S9, it does offer more value imo. With that said i still picked pixel as I prefer stock android

Yessssssss!!!! I love it!!!! I love the pixel stand charger! It's fantastic!

I like it but the Photo Frame Slide show doesn't work for me ever...factory reset will fix it for a while and then it stops again. Google has no clue. It is frustrating...

I agree...the value of a Samsung Phone, especially the Note 9, is excellent...and Samsung has a great accessory ecosystem. But I keep coming back to the Pixel for the camera.

The Pixel 3 is great if you are looking for a great camera especially since Night Sight was just released but there's more too the phone then the camera. It comes with the quick charger in the box (it's really fast), and the battery keeps better each time I use it. I've had the phone for about a month and off the bat, I could stream videos for almost 6 hours. Just did another test yesterday and it's now close to 7. That's a big gain. Also yes the screen call feature is Godsend. I've never answered the phone. And the now playing feature is very helpful. If there's a song playing in the background and it knows what it is, it tells me. I don't have to use Shazam it all Google to tell me, it just does it and that's useful. Point is you really realize how smart and useful the phone is the more you use it. It is the definition of a "Smartphone."

Those are great points...I'd love to have all of this along with the S-PEN and the screen of the Note 9. :)

Good post.

I'd love to know the % of time smartphones are used for phone calls, as opposed to streaming, texting, on line shopping, and other things a regular phone can't do. If I had to guess, I say 75%.
