Radioshack Employee here, taking questions about Pre Order/Buying Process

I hope this question hasn't been asked... I read through most pages and didn't see anything. So...

I have a family plan. My phone is the HTC TP2. My brother-in-law (who is on one of my lines in the family plan) is up for an upgrade. Can I pre-order the Evo under his line and then switch it to my line after it's activated? Does it get activated at the store or can I do it later at home?

Thanks for your help!

My father is the account holder for me...I was very young when I got my first cell phone and I have just continued it on his name with his permission of course.

My father is out of the country till July.

Do I really need him to be there with me or can it be done without him? I have account services notes saying I have access to the account and I will have his DL # and SSN # and sprint PIN. Thank you. I am really worried about this...

Its up to the manager of the store, its their butt on the line in this situation. I know I wouldn't do it unless my manager gave me the go ahead.

Just tell them when you pick up the phone not to activate it because your just going to be switching its line anyway. When you get home call sprint and have them switch it. Its not 100% guaranteed that sprint will do it but in my experience they usually do.

I tried searching this thread for my question and didn't find anything, but I may not have used the right terms...

If I was to preorder the EVO at Radio Shack and I'm not eligible until a few weeks after release, will the phone be held for me until I'm eligible?

If I was to preorder the EVO at Radio Shack and I'm not eligible until a few weeks after release, will the phone be held for me until I'm eligible?

I read a few pages back that they will only hold it over the weekend. So a couple of weeks is out of the question.

Nope, they will only hold the phone until the 5th. After that, it goes on sale to the general, non pre-prdering public.

There is some wiggle room on the RS hold policy for the EVO -- they're holding mine until I get back in town on the 6th -- but no one is going to hold one for weeks!

Call Sprint Customer Service and see if they will move up your upgrade date; usually they do if it's only a couple of weeks.

Just wanted to mention that I had a really positive experience pre-ordering from my local Radio Shack, so I totally appreciate it.

Interestingly enough, I was going to do an online order through Let's Talk, but they couldn't guarantee delivery for June 3rd. I liked the way the assistant at Radio Shack did my credit check etc. that very day, so I'm all set for when it arrives. Online places have to wait until the phone is right there before they pre-approve you!

Also, when they went to put in all my info into the system, they discovered I still had some remnants of an account with Sprint because I was a Nextel customer maybe 5-6 years ago. Of course, I couldn't recall some PIN I was supposed to have, but they set me up nice and quickly despite this and were very helpful.

So, had I stuck with an online order, you can bet my account request probably wouldn't have gone through properly what with the old PIN nonsense, and because of the great assistant at Radio Shack, they sorted out my application and pre-order right on the spot. Very neat.

I've rarely used Radio Shack in the past, but I was impressed by their pre-order process and even got the nice $20 card.

what if I don't even tell them?

I wanted to ask if RS checks the birth-date.

My father and I have our first name and middle name reversed and same address. so my first name shows up as the middle name on the account with the same last name. The only thing that would give away the identity difference is the birth-date and the swapping of the first and middle name between us. thanks

so 2 questions please
1. Does RS really check the name that hardcore? (our first and middle names being reversed)
2. Does RS check the birtdhate? Thank you for your time

No, but you could honestly get someone fired by doing this without your father there is the account is in his name. Is you getting the phone faster worth that?

I've called several times to try to have them push my eligibility date sooner. I'm eligible on 7/1 and they're only able to move it closer to 6/18, which is the same experience from a few other's on this forum.

I'm still trying through...

how would I get them fired? I'm not a cop or a snitch and I have no intent on pulling any fraud or scams....if I don't do anything, how can someone get fired?

do they check social security #'s or DL #s?

I understand its unlikely, but I've seen similar things happen. It's pretty ****ty to see a coworker lose a job because they broke a rule to help someone out.

Its like going to a Dr. and asking for a vicodin rx to use for fun. Even though you promise to not tell anyone, he won't give it to you.

This is not automatic. The Sprint rep who changed your plan missed a step. Same thing happened to me. I went from SERO to EPRP to ED 450. Although Sprint changed the "plan type" the "account type" was still employee referral. I found this out when I attempted to have my corporate discount added. They can indeed change this. I advise you to get this cleared up as soon as possible.

Yea, I promise you that I won't get anyone in trouble. however, do you think I'll run into an issue since they don't check birthdates and our first and middle named swapped? would they also check Driver License #'s or SSN's? or is the name and address the only thing? Thanks

you kinda missed the point I was intending to convey...

They will probably only check photo id and need the sprint pin. IMO you should at least give them the courtesy of telling them its your dads account so they can decide if the sale is worth the risk.

eyecon82, why not just open a new line of service under your name? That way you can get the phone and not risk costing someone their job, just a thought

Hi,

I signed up for a new sprint account on Monday. I got a HTC hero from radio shack. the worker told me that I could upgrade to the Evo since I had a 30 day money back guarantee with sprint. He told me I could just take the Hero back and he would cancel my account and reopen an account with a preordered Evo. Is this really true? I was a little skeptical when he told me i could do this. Maybe you could confirm this? I really would like the Evo as the Hero is so slow when upgraded to 2.1.

also, if for some reason I dont like the Evo (Im hoping that wont be a problem), could I still cancel the sprint contract? It would all be still under 30 days.

thanks for the help,
Tom

1st part: he would just do a wireless-swap. If its in 30 days, its no problem. You pay the difference.

2nd part: yes, but its from DAY ONE. Not an additional 30 days from the switch to the evo. So you only have till June 23rd to make that decision.

THat includes going back to Radioshack , returning the phone, and contacting sprint all before close of business. One day late = sol.

I have a sweet deal going with a $20 recurring credit and 20%+ corporate discount stacked due to his employment. If I open up a new account and cancel the account and switch over the phone, radioshack will get dinged and I'll probably get charged the full price of the phone anyways and I don't want to risk messing with my account too much since I have a Pick 6 + FIMF + 5pm nights going. Too much trouble in my opinion.

I'm just going to go in show my id, give my pin, and renew the contract, all with my dads permission. No harm intended.

I just don't understand how he will lose his job if he just doesn't know.
