AC Question

Around last week my phone started randomly playing audio adverts without me using it. Adverts about cars and fuel play loudly with no indication on the phone of where the audio is playing from or how to stop it, when I pick up the phone there is no visual advert and it can be used as normal while it plays the file. I have downloaded Avast virus scanner and it says my phone is secure. I have also deleted any apps I had downloaded recently however just now the audio started playing again and turned off the radio show I was listening to on BBC. Can anyone advise how I can address this problem or what it might be?

Thanks much!

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

Hi,

I'm having the exact same problem. An ad about fuel and checking blindspots. I've tried looking it up but have had no luck. If you get sorted let me know, I'll do the same.

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

So this helps none of us, but i too am having this trouble on my Samaung 6. Love tp know how to stop it

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

Guys, from what I've gathered online it's adware from a dodgy app. The only app I downloaded recently was the BetFred app which is not part of the playstore. I uninstalled app and did a norton scan and there was nothing else detected and it hasn't happened since. So I would advise taking a look at any recently dowloaded apps, especially if they weren't from a reputable app store.

Hope you both get sorted!

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

I don't know if you solved your problem but I was having exactly the same thing happen on my Nexus 5. It would start playing ads, typically like 2 or 3 in the morning, waking me up. As soon as I opened the cover, it would stop and there'd be nothing on the screen. Seems like an awful stupid way to try and get business to me because there's no way of knowing what they're even selling.

I believe I have gotten rid of it and believe it was installed by a call/SMS blocking app. I had installed a couple right before it started happening so I removed them and it hasn't happened since. I'm not certain if one of these was the culprit but the two I removed were:

"Block call and block SMS" by Secure Solution

"Mr. Number-Block calls & spam" by Whitepages

If you have either of these installed, I'd be highly suspicious and try removing them. If this works, you should return here and report it. People using tactics such as this should be exposed for the criminals they are.

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

TE5LA the same thing happens on my galaxy s5 at 3am it plays random audio mostly about baseball

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

It has not happened to me since I uninstalled the two apps above.

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

I started experiencing this ~ Feb 21 2016, and I have neother of the two apps mentioned above. I have a Motorola Droid Turbo (XT1254) on a Verizon account. I have also taken the usual steps of trying safe mode and restoring the phone to factory settings ("wiping" the phone), to no avail. Both Verizon and Motorola deny ever having heard of the issue. I am skeptical.

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

I'm having the same problem on my Moto X. And I have not installed any new apps recently. These random audio ads just started popping up recently. Hope someone can figure out who the culprit is, because it's very problematic to have these start playing during a business meeting

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

I am having the same issue with a new Google Pixel Phone. Incredibly annoying!

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

So I have a LG V20 and I have the exact same problem. Random advertisment sounds play while my phone screen is dark. I open my phone and I can't find the source. Just wanted to put a possible idea I had out there. I've been watching youtube more recently maybe the autoplay feature causes this? I turned it off in the YouTube settings so I'll see what happens. I did uninstall all my recent apps too to hopefully stop it. But none of the ones listed by other people. We'll see what happens, it's beyond frustrating.

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

I had this recently start around Jan 29, 2017. I visited the handy google.com/history page and filtered by Android (myactivity.google.com/item?product=1) and I saw that the app Draw! appears much more frequently than I actually use the app - every few hours least. I had recorded the times the random audio happened and sure enough, this app was showing as "Used" at those times. I uninstalled it and here's hoping that did the trick.

Thank you SO MUCH cmdr_keen! I am having the same issue with random advertisements on my galaxy s5 (just audio while locked, stops as soon as I unlock the phone), so I went googling, found this thread, looked at my own history and, sure enough, DRAW! was being accessed WAY MORE TIMES than I was ever actually accessing it! I'll be uninstalling it and hopefully that solves it. If it doesn't, I'll edit this post, so, if this post remains unedited, it can be assumed this successfully worked for me :)

Thanks again!

For everyone finding this post, I suppose it may not just be the DRAW! app... but looking at your history and looking for apps that appear to be being accessed that don't make any sense because you aren't accessing them, that's probably suspicious activity that you want to get rid of :)

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

I m facing the same it doesn't matter your phone is locked unlocked phone is silent or not it plays the voice and when unlock advertisement keeps playing

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

I, too, had the unfortunate experience of loud *** ads playing in the middle of the nite(s) when my phone was on Silent (Hulu, some slot machine game, etc.)!! I deleted one of two recently installed apps (didn't delete the other as I soooo didn't think it was the culprite). I then reviewed every single setting in every single Account and changed some Allow Ads settings - it still happened a couple nites later. So, I realized I hadn't thought of Google Play so I changed all the related settings here too. However, I decided to report this occurrence by doing yet another Search and came across this Forum - thank God!! I realized the other app I hadn't yet deleted must be the culprit (Digital Smart Compass) so I deleted it! I sincerely hope this did the trick!! ***BTW, "Ad" contained in a little green outlined box shows, right up close and personal on the title of the app, so if you ever see this - they mean business - random ads will play loudly at will in the middle of the nite!!!***

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

I was having the same issue with my lg v20. It appears that the restaurant finder app, that came installed on the phone, may be the calpret. My history showed it running during the times the music happened.

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

This actually just happened to me last night around 3 am but the difference is that mine wasn't an ad. It was a random melody being played in a loop. I checked my google music app to see if it was on and it wasn't. as a matter of fact i tried to play that music and it just played the melody in the background. I closed every app open in my phone and the melody still wouldn't stop playing. The only way i was able to make it stop was to turn off the phone completely.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

Yes!! This happened to me too!! I deleted Pandora and it stopped. Nothing nowhere was showing what was playing. I went into Data usage also, no clues there as to what was using my phone memory!!! My phone got really hot too!
Anyway, deleted Pandora music and it stopped. Sad, because I like Pandora Music... but I like to choose when to listen!!! Not random!!!

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

Have only had my G6 for a few days and it randomly plays a ringtone looping over and over until phone is turned off. There are no apps open and the phone is new so I haven't even had a chance to add new apps to it. Very annoying at 4 am

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

I have a galaxy s5 and i have the same problem that literally just started last night! (22/11/17) and it woke me up twice throughout the night. My sound is not advertising but a wierd sound bit like it's a stock music file (sounds kind of like a desert kinda theme) like how the samsungs come with that one anoying stock song, but this audio file is different (not to mention i deleted that anoying propaganda) so it's not any music from my music app, i even check my 1134 songs to check if there was a "breach". I then check by device history via google first suggested by Cmdr_keen. An ap called s8 Edge Mask apears to pop up often but i don't know weather this is because it's a background app or the source of the problem. I am currently in safe mode so i'm safe from that "Heathen". I will update later on my satus
