RAZR Maxx turning on screen by its self.

That sucks. I now have a FRU coming from big red and I won't be leaving gingerbread until a permanent fix is issued by Motorola or Verizon.

To every one that is experiencing this problem.... Is WiFi on and actively connected?

Mine seems to only do this when actively connected to a WiFI network. You know when you set the wifi to sleep when screen is turned off and you have to wake phone in order to reestablish wifi connection..... well its like the phone is automatically waking its self to reestablish its connection with verizons (mobile) network. Even tho there is no setting for that, its doing it, on its own. The phone is relaying on the wifi connection so much that its dropping its "gain" on the mobile network thus resulting in loss of mobile network and then awaking itself to reestablish connection with that same network......

Do I have something here??? lol.

Ive turned my wifi off and I havent notice the screen turn on in the past day.

That seems to be exactly what is happening. My screen has not turned on once with wife turned off. Good catch.

Update since last post .... the "restore connectivity" app did not resolve the network drops but I will echo the latest comments from Anthony2558, this only happens when connected to a wifi network.

As my phone sits beside me in my home office connected to wifi the 4G connection drops repeatedly but if I disconnect from wifi the phone stays connected to the 4G network without dropping. I tried updating to the .214 leak but the behavior was the same. I also tried some settings tweaks like changing the preferred network from Global to LTE/CDMA but that didn't help either.

Since the issue doesn't happen unless I'm on wifi I guess I'm not that concerned about it. As long as the phone has some type of network connection I'm happy. More of an annoyance at this point but I do hope it's fixed with the next OTA update.

I just can't figure out why only some people seem to be having this issue. I did not have this issue on gb so I believe that it's a software issue. I guess I will keep this phone unless it gets worse and hope that a update will resolve it.

My new stock Maxx that I got last Thursday has been doing the same thing...I noticed the phone would wake up to the lock screen right while it was sitting on the table with no one around. That night, I updated to ICS hoping that would improve things...nothing doing...

I tried two hard resets, three soft resets, setting up Smart Actions, update kernal info, turning off all GPS, using wifi only, using 3G only (we don't have 4G here yet) The screen kept coming on randomly no matter what I did...80% of my battery usage was the screen....I did NOT buy a Maxx to have the battery die because of the random lock screen "wake ups".

To attempt to fix before returning...I troubleshooted with the store I purchased it from, the carrier & Motorola and finally picked up a new one today.

So far, so good...by now, the old one would have turned itself on...

Here's keeping my fingers crossed....

Jctischler - So you did the .214 leak update? That leak has a different kernel. I wonder if this leak has a correction in it for our situation.

Just installed but not in a wifi area at this time. So I can't confirm if this will fix the problem.

Not sure what leak update was done. The store I purchased it from called the carriers tech support and was walked through the process. Whatever they did, it didn't work and the phone still did the same thing.

With my new phone that I picked up yesterday, I did the ICS system update right away (prior to adding apps/personalizing the phone) and haven't had a problem since.

System version
6.16.211.XT912.Verizon.en.US

Android 4.0.4

Not sure than answers your question though...

My new phone still hasn't had any problems...

I was pretty clear a few posts back that I was running the leak and that it didn't fix the problem. In a last ditch effort to fix it I did another factory reset by going in to recovery and wiping data and cache several times. Give me a couple of days of normal usage to report back as to whether it's fixed.

I've also updated to the .214 leak. It has not corrected the issue. But my battery is def lasting longer.

So far so good. No network drops at work or at home. The phone had been dropping regularly from both locations. Still to early to tell if it's completely fixed but it hasn't dropped once in the first 24 hours.

Not solved yet. Factory data reset did not fix it nor did wiping the phone again and installing the .214 leak. Since I was in a flashing mood I jumped on the .215 leak yesterday and it's been pretty good so far. No network drops from the home office last night. The latest leak does include a new LTE radio so I'm hoping this was a known issue and was addressed with the updated radio. Head over to Droidrazr.com for the leak.

I updated to the .215 leak and still keep having the issue. It keeps dropping 4G and then it comes back and goes away :( not sure what's going on! it started to happen to me since yesterday. Maybe VZW is having issues with cell reception??
