RAZR Reviewed in Store

I played with one today and I did not like the display at all. I could see the pixels and it had a screen door effect for me. The thunder bolt's display looked much better and I was extremely surprised. I really wanted to like the razr I am hoping the rezound's screen is as good as the specs say it should be.
That's odd.
The Razr I played with had an excellent screen (and believe me, I'm picky as hell when it comes to picture quality), and was no where by any means like a screen door.
Maybe the one you played with was defective perhaps? :-\

Anyone concerned about how it feels a bit sharp and not rounded in your hand?
Well... if its as durable as my OGD is, those edges just make it a perfect projectile.
(Just like in this old Sprint commercial)

Sorry OP, didn't mean to come across as harsh towards you. Wasn't insulting you. Just was frustrated to hear negatives about it already. I'll have to check my VZW store and see if they have any on display. If not I'll just go in Friday and check one out.

If this screen is as bad as some say, that might be a deal breaker, but from pics and video review I've seen it looks crisp and colors look like they pop. I mean it can't be any worse than my OG Droid, right? I'm also hoping the camera is at least better than my 5MP OG Droid's. I'll be happy if it takes crisp pictures even at a lower resolution setting. I don't need to take all pics at the 8MP setting.

In all honesty, the DR is actually a fantastic phone. And when compaired to the OGD, it's a major improvement by a 1000 fold!

I really have no idea what some people are saying about the screen. The screen is absolutely amazing imho. Its nice, bright and the colors are beautiful. The camera is also very solid. The shutter speed is actually as quick as my Thunderbolt was and the images came out very clear and crisp. Auto focus was nice and quick as well.

Also, someone mentioned earlier that you can easily scratch the Kevlar. This is totally not true. I tried repeatedly to put a scratch in the Kevlar with my fingernail and I could not.

I tried running the browser and tried to run a speed test on 4g but it seemed like this particular phone did not have a data connection. Too bad.

All in all, I think the new RAZR is gonna be an extremely solid phone. Whoever buys one will definitely not be disappointed.

I'm glad one of the biggest "knocks" so far on this phone is the camera. I use my phone's camera for ad hoc, random pics that I maybe want to show someone else. If I'm going anywhere that I plan to take pics, I'm still taking my point-and-shoot or my DSLR...my phone-camera isn't coming out for any shot. None of the cameras have optical zoom to get really good results anyway. So while I agree, it would be great to have a gazillion-megapixels and perfectly sharp results, I still think the camera is more of a "nice to have", not a "requirement".

The other is obviously the display. This is always going to be a mostly-subjective item, and while I think a forum is a great place to provide a personal review and comments, I agree with some of the other posters -- you should see it for yourself and make your own decision.

The screen was amazing. I had to see for myself, so I checked one out today as well. Very impressed with how crisp and sharp it was. Could make out pixels but only when I was really trying and looking at certain colors. I plan on purchasing one on friday.

I have to agree on the screen being beautiful. I saw one today in my vzw store and was very excited mine will be here on Friday. It is such a beautifully designed phone, and so different from the cookie-cutter look alike phones out there. Obviously there is only so much you can do with a phone, and I really like what Moto did with this one. It was lightning fast too. And light. I think it looks better in person and like a comment upstream, I also think the "bump" on the top is far less pronounced in person. Great looking phone. I just wish my lapdock were coming Friday and not delayed.

I also took a look at the RAZR in store today. The screen is better than the bionic, but I could still see a grid. It was not terrible, but the screen is no where near the quality of the Droid Charge. However, it is still pretty good.
The phone was very quick, it never lagged when I was playing with it The hardware is pretty top notch, with a few exceptions. Like Phil said in his review, it is WIDE. That is not a joke. Also, the volume rocker feels low-quality compared to the rest of the phone, which is odd.
Now, I do not know if anyone else reported this, but this demo unit had an issue. Every time I played with the camera, the phone rebooted or shut off. Every single time. This demo unit is only a few days old, and the hardware is already broken. At one point, it shut off and wouldn't turn back on! Not a good sign, but hopefully a fluke.
One last point. I popped out the SD card and found that it was a 16GB, but only Class 2. Class 2 is terrible! They did the same thing on the Droid Charge (but 32GB). You WILL run into issues using a class 2 card. I highly recommend putting your own card in, using at least class 6 or above.

I'm surprised they left a card in there. Normally they'd be worried someone would steal it. Maybe someone swapped it out for theirs.

The problem is that an Android phone really needs the SD card, but most phones have it non-removable under the battery. Not this one. Can't really do much about it.

Went to my local Big Red store across the street from my office in Manhattan last night to meet the Razr.

Wow! A beautiful device and the first thing I thought of was a tad bit of remorse for those who jumped into the Bionic. The Razr blows it away and it was just released such a short time ago.

Now the tough part.... waiting for the GNex to hit the store so I can do my due diligence and decide which one to get......

Tough decisions.

At where I went and played with. It had an alarm device attached to it. Tied down with zip ties to the alarm device. But I was still managed to move the zip ties enough to open the compartment where the SD card and sim card was at.

I stopped into a local VZW corporate store yesterday (not the one I normally go to). I was checking out the Razr they have on display and man that thing is light, even with that "security device" they have it tethered to the wall with. It is extremely responsive.

The only thing I was somewhat disappointed in was the construction of the side door for the micro sim/sd card slots. It felt like it was thrown in as a last minute feature. It felt like it was going to break off before I was able to get it open and when it did open it seemed flimsy.

other than that I was impressed with the build and the kevlar coating on the back did not scratch as easily as some people here have said.

So if the Nexus doesn't get a release date fairly soon I may end up with a Razr.

I think some ppl might be mistaking scratching the back with scratching the plastic covering the back. I thought wtf too ...until I noticed it was a plastic film...lol Took that off and I couldnt scratch it using my nail.
