Read first post then post battery results

all you people getting more then 2-4hrs is because your screen is off!!!

Why buy a mini laptop if you cant use it and have to keep the screen off...

if you disagree just go look at how long your screen was on for after your battery is almost dead then report back

Not really true. i have watched an entire movie (screen on the whole time 2+ hours) AND emailed, surfed, angry birds, etc. for 4+ hours on a single charge.

Yet OTHER times (like today), I have only gotten just under 3 hours - probably because I was out side in 25 degree weather for three hours?

You're not going to have a dog in this fight after Tuesday, right?

wow..the life gets better every week!

have 11hours up time. did not finish a full bump charge today.

been air syncing music, playing mp3s as well as my normal gtalk, emails, calls, surfing the web, facebook/twitter apps and texts. I still have about 40% left.

also Iv been on 4g all day. only 20min of wifi.

I have now taken my new Thunderbolt out for a spin and obviously I will make some heavy tweaking. I am using CurrentWidget and it uses 38 mAh in standby mode - later it has jumped up to approx 100 mAh but that was on the subway when it was searching for network.

This is with 4G on. I have a HD2 and normal power consumption for that device is approx 2-10 mAh in standby so the Thunderbolt is obviously in need for heavy battery tweaking. I have disabled the Blockbuster updating.

38 mAh is something that I will try to reduce to approx 5 mAh. First a new ROM will be flashed and then I will do the same battery savings as I have on my HD2 FroYo (Desire Z build):

1. Update news, weather etc every 6 hour or manually.
2. GreenPower: day profile 1 minute data connection/30 minutes, night profile 1 minute/1 hour. This is with screen off.
3. SetCPU (perhaps) - 384 Mhz screen off.
4. Sense replaced with LauncherPro, Sense lockscreen disabled.
5. BloatFreezer: freeze the Sense process and some other HTC processes that's running in the background despite usage of LauncherPro.
6. DroidWall: disable all unnecessary connections on mobile network. I'm only keeping connectivity for the applications I want such as news feeds, browser, mail et al.

This is the battery saving measures I am using on the HD2 and it's working great. So the Thunderbolt will receive the same treatment. I recommend others to try.

Wouldn't it be nice if the phone CAME in a "bare bones" setting, giving you the best possible battery life - and then you could add on whatever bloat you wanted to kill the battery faster on your own?

I don't like the way it is now - it's almost like a computer game (Any programmers listening, I want 10%) - HTC and Verizon set up the Thunderbolt "game" (the phone) and it's up to the gamers (customers) to break down the barriers HTC&VZW have set up in the phone - there are many levels to defeat, and set backs (bricked phones), but the winners get a phone that can actually do what it was "designed" to do.

Well, I don't like to play games with my phone (pun) I want a product that works great OUT OF THE BOX.

HTC/DROID/VERIZON stop "playing" around! I'm tired of trying to find all the "secretes" to make my Thunderbolt work!

If there are settings that make it work better and faster as a phone
If there are settings that make it work better and faster as a web browser
If there are settings that make it work better and faster as a movie player
If there are settings that make it work better and faster as a MP3 player

Then maybe make a "widget" that changes to those settings - on the fly - when you use those features.

OR just give it a damn OEM battery that can run it at "top speed" for 24 hours.....and NOT as an after thought or an "add on."

This is the first cell phone I have ever had, where I spend MORE TIME thinking about the battery than I do USING the phone for what it was meant to used for! This is NUTS!

display time on 1 hour and 35 minutes. And for your sake Alfie, tomorrow I will retry with the screen on and post my results, but I don't feel like charging my phone till tomorrow and with 43%, I won't have to.

so your not going to get 3hrs of screen on time.

I dont know about the iphone 3gs but

The iphone 4 you can leave the screen on auto and get a solid 6hrs on 3g and a solid 8hrs on wifi. I know i had it for 2 weeks.

With the tb on 3g you get 3hrs of solid screen on and on wifi you get 5hrs of solid screen time. and those times are with the screen at its lowest setting vs auto...

This is my complaint. And if they would of took time building it we could of had a 1600-2000mh battery and it would of been perfect

Alfie, I agree a 1800-2000mAh battery would have been cool, but knowing HTC history, you better off with a Motorola phone.

Also, I am happy with what I have gotten today. No 3 hours of display on, but I used it for what I needed and used the display when I needed it. if I get display on for 2 hours, awake time of 9+, and Up time of 30+ I would be happy.

Update

Up time: 35:40:10

Awake Time: 10:00:10

Display time on: 4:32:43

Battery: 4%

I did not charge last night. I am very happy with these results. I think the biggest battery hit is the % lost during boot (~4%-10%). besides the display usage. Alfie, I know your going to say I told you so, but remember I had a lot of other usage besides display on (5.5 hours of music with display off). I figure from full to 5% I could get 6.5 hours with display on using my modified bump charging and power saving techniques. Now I need to get back to work. (Who paid for the phone)

Thats pretty good about 4hrs 30min of screen time. Thats a little more then what i was getting on 3g

BUt keep in mind i turned everything off on my phone all radio and put wifi on and i only got 5hrs 31min of screen on time doing nothing with the screen on lowest setting... so if you ever get your 6hrs of screen on time that would be great but i dont see it.

If i cant do it with everything off how are you going to do it with stuff on?

If i could get 6hrs screen on time i would keep it.

With moderate use my phone was a little over 10 hours of up time and a little over 3 hours of awake time and I'm at about 40% battery life left which is pretty good.

I feel rather clueless... mine almost always has the same amount of "up" and "awake" time -- right now they're at 8:52 and 8:43, and that's with light to moderate use today -- the screen has been off the vast majority of the day. Is something wrong with my settings? What is really the difference between "up" and "awake"?
