Really bad Nexus 4 battery life

Hello everyone.I am new to android central, I got my nexus 4 late April, and my battery life is apalling.I am using BatteryGuru, stock everything, jellybean 4.2.2, sync and GPS turned off, auto brightness, yet i've dropped 30% in the past 2 hours having the phone in my pocket and browsing this forums for 10 mins looking for answers. If anyone has any good ideas, I would love to hear them

Probably wake lock issues. Download Wake Lock Detector from the Play Store and reboot your phone. After a couple hours, it should be able to point out what apps are frequently waking your phone from deep sleep.

Just as an example, after adjusting my settings to minimize wake locks to a reasonable amount and letting BatteryGuru manage some functions, I am down to 73% after 24 hours with several phone calls and some surfing, messaging and downloading.

Thanks man that really helped

No worries man. Just make sure you adjust your app settings accordingly. You need to find the right balance between functionality and battery life. For example, rather than allowing Twitter or G+ to sync on their own schedules, I only have them sync when I open them cuz I rarely use them. This will vary from person to person though. For what it's worth, G+ was responsible for a lot of wake locks on my device, but not anymore after I adjusted it.

I am not sure if this is the reason but.
I have the data connection disabled. I also have WiFi turned off.
However I get notifications that I have Gmail messages waiting. How does that happen then? Does my phone turn on data periodically to check Gmail.
I have turned off these notifications to see if there is a difference. If anyone can help as to why I get these messages along with updates needed with all other than the GSM switched off, I would appreciate an explantation.
TIA
Try turning airplane mode on and see what happens. If you still drain then it's either a faulty app or faulty phone. I would do a factory reset first and only install essential apps first. Then slowly add apps and see if you notice a change.

Hey guys, I had gotten myself a Nexus 4 a little over a month ago. But since the day before yesterday, the battery on my phone started to behave weirdly. When I had woken up in the morning, i noticed that my battery had drained from a little under 100% to a little over 50% and all this had happened with just Whatsapp open in the background with 3G and WiFi turned off. And since then, my battery performance has been very bad. Battery drains very fast and also the phone gets heated up. Any idea as to why this could be happening and is there any fix to this problem?

Thank You.

I got my nexus 4 in February and the battery life was pretty good on standby mode. I am not a heavy user and it lasted me for the day easily. 2 days ago installed android 4.3 and there is a huge drain on the battery. Previously the consumption for Android os was low down the list. Now it it is at the top, competing with the screen consumption. Basically, it has gone on standby from something like 2-3% per hour to 6-8% per hour. What has Google done? They better issue a patch for this horrendous increase in battery consumption with 4.3.

I dont know what has happened. But after the first 24 hours of a huge increase in battery consumption after installing 4.3, with no change in usage pattern, the phone has reverted back to normal. As I am posting this, after 11 hrs and 45 minutes of my usual light use, battery life is at 63%!! Its as good if not better before the 4.3 installation. As I mentioned in my earlier post, system battery usage spiked immediately after the installation but now has fallen back to normal if not even lower than 4.2.2. Good work Google!!

I did a test.
I charged my Nexus 4 to 100% and set it next to my bed when i want to sleep (i only unplugged it right before i went to sleep).
In the morning (about 8h later) the battery was down to 62%?!

Everything was turned off, no WiFi connection when in sleep mode. And no GPS.
I don't really download apps for my phone except for avast (just to be safe).
But that doesn't do scans unless i go online or so. I made sure of that.

I did the same to my "HTC Desire S" And it was at 91%
No calls, no text, nothing at all but standby with everything off.
If you have no other options. Try this.
Reset factory settings (back up everything first). Do not enter Google Account just yet (this to make sure you are clean with no 3rd-party apps).
Open multitasking pane to check nothing is running. Kill all running apps, if any.
Charge it to 100% before bed, unplug and turn airplane mode 'on'.

Check battery level in the morning.

sat nav apps really chew up your battery (faster than it will recharge) - you'll get maybe five hours of use if you are on a 2.1 A charger

here is my suggestion for battery saving.
- Switch from carrier data to wifi whenever possible, especially when carrier network signal is not stable in your area. Wifi is less battery consume than 3G carrier.
- Use static wallpaper instead of live wallpaper
- set screen timeout to 2 minutes or less, or immediatelly turn off screen after you use your phone.
- set brigthness to lowest or Auto. Low brightness is better.
- Turn off vibration, bluetooth, location services especially GPS if you don't use it. I let "Wifi & mobile network location" setting ON, but GPS off.
- Turn of auto-sync in Data Usage setting. However by doing so, some apps might not getting notification update. If you are concerned by this, then keep turning on Auto-Sync but manually and wisely choose which apps should doing auto-sync by go to Setting > Account, choose which apps to auto-sync and turn off the rest. Yes, although Auto-Sync in Data Usage is on, you can still manually switch off syncing on particular apps.
- minimize homescreen widget usage.
- Doing trickle charge after 100% charge. Install Battery Doctor apps to assist you doing trickle charge. This can optimize your battery performance. This apps also good to monitor your battery usage.

I simply count on plugging in my Nexus 4 anytime I can. Battery is the only real weakness I've found.

Ain't that the truth... I plug mine in at every available opportunity. Its just something I've gotten use to in the last 2-3 weeks.

This was on my drive to work.

And this is right now... I tried to get a capture around the same % as yesterday and its pretty consistent with what I saw. This time however I got a screen of the battery and you can see that there is a constant drain overnight..... Then when I start using the phone again there is a dip. When I first checked Android OS was above screen for usage.

Since the 4.3 update, I have had android os get out of control just twice and both times, a reboot solved it.

Over the last two days my battery has been draining. Usage says SD card. I have never used a card on my phone and didn't even know I had one, lol. Anyone know what this is about?
