Reason and fix for Rdio, Rhapsody, Sirius/XM, BitBop, et al failing over 3G after OTA

Keeps getting better:
Here's the response I received-

Hello,

You were given this address by mistake. Please send email to sxmiphone@quickplay.com and a customer service representative will help you with your issue.

If anyone sent to the first email, I recommend resending to the new one.

Just got this from the last email address.

Sirius XM currently works on Android 1.5 - 2.1 OS. Support for OS 2.2 will be
available shortly.

I wonder what shortly means.

cataylo6,
Looks like we have the same pen pal at quickplay- I got the same response:

Email Customer: Hello,
Sirius XM currently works on Android 1.5 - 2.1 OS. Support for OS 2.2 will be
available shortly.
Sincerely,
SXM Mobile Support

So far, at least they officially acknowledge it- would have been nice if a company as big as sirius/xm could have had their developer find a copy of froyo before the launch date to find out whether the app works....
Was it a secret that 2.2 was being released? A secret only every nerd on the internet knew about? (Apple fanboys excepted). ;)

I asked them what "shortly" meant and this is what I got:

Unfortunately at this time we are unable to provide a ETA.

Sincerely,
SXM Mobile Support

went to check the sirius android app page to see if they had a comment about the app- they didn't but I was amused by this note:

Ensure that you are running the latest software & firmware on your device. For instructions on how to upgrade your device software or firmware, visit the manufacturer's website.

to quote Alannis Morrisette, isn't it ironic....

Re: Froyo and Sirius XM app

I had XM for years and can tell you that their support for devices is terrible. I had the pioneer inno 2 that had very buggy firmware. It took them 2 years to release a new firmware update. Granted, it was when they were merging with Sirius, but still......

Sent from my HTC EVO.

Well, I hope we dont' have to wait 2 yrs.. They better have this done in 2 weeks..

Same here...

Thought I was nuts..guess not..

Daily XM listener on my Evo here..def bummed when I realized what was going on...I tried the clearing cache/uninstall/reinstall thing too w no luck..hope the fix is out soon..XM was the first app I downloaded when I got the Evo...

As someone mentioned above, it does work fine w wifi...

:p

Ok, first im not a xm user but i have had success with other radio apps by running wifi even when wifi is unavailable. has anyone tried this? i thnk this sprints way of saving bandwidth. run wifi away from your home and see if that works.

Firstly- Doesn't work on wifi either-
Secondly, it doesn't appear to be a sprint problem, it's not a sprint app- it's a sirius xm app (apparently developed by "quickplay")
thirdly, I'm not sure why the app would differentiate between wifi or 3g/4g-wouldn't it just look for a data stream, buffer, and go?

regardless, my app loops with the same issue on wifi as it does on 3g- as a matter of fact, I noticed it initially when I was on wifi-

I guess we just have to wait until the Sirius App is updated to work with Froyo. Hopefully that is sooner than later.

It's no Sirius/XM fault, it's Google that changed the entire media framework in 2.2, and it's buggy and not as easy to work with. Simple stuff that worked fine in 1.6 and 2.1 does not in 2.2.

All problems with media stuff in 2.2 is Google's fault and they better get on the ball and start working with devs to fix this crap.

You can sign up for email notification when the update for froyo is available at the link,http://www.siriusxm.com/android/indexd.html as well- but you can't see the info from the mobile version of the page-
I couldn't see it from my evo- only when I signed infrom my computer.
