Reasons For Picking The 3 vs 3xl

Something else to consider (as I did when I pre-ordered) is that if this trade war keeps going, we might see the prices jump for no reason other than tariffs. Pixels are being manufactured at Foxconn in China, and the next round of tariffs were set to target technology. If a 25% tariff happens, that's a much larger bump than this.

Excellent point.

As some have mentioned they could've raised the price last year when they bumped the storage capacities over the original Pixels but they kept the same price. So this year they bumped the price with the same storage, but they also added a bunch of other stuff, probably more than they did last year. Really other than front facing speakers an Visual Core, they didn't add a whole lot hardware-wise. And the Visual Core last year only helped on thrid party apps, this year it's being utilized by Google's own software.

Will then, it's a war on technology. Bye bye smartphones.

I'm still going back and forth. I want the smaller, more convenient size, but I'm concerned about the display res. I'm currently using an S8+ at WQHD+, and I don't know if I'd be happy with a lower resolution. I may have to wait until I can see the 3 vs 3XL in my local carrier store to decide. So I'll be passing up the pre-reg bonus.

I believe the visual core was utilized by the camera

This is going to my 3rd pixel XL, I really like large screen size the speakers on the cameras I've already pre-ordered the xl-3.
Can't wait to get it.
don't give a damn about the notch everyone should quit whining, and just get over it. You are holding a computer in your hands, that used take up the size of football stadium, if they built a computer to have the same power as a pixel 3XL back when computers were first built.
the pixel XL 3 has more computing power than all the computer power used at all of the Gemini Apollo and moon space missions combined over their entire lifetime. This phone is God damn amazing.

Phones are just getting too big. A 5.5" screen in the 3's design is about as big as I want although going bezelless like my PH-1 keeps you in a smaller form factor with a larger (5.8") screen.

Both me and the OL has S8+ phones.
She was originally with a smaller phone.
And I upgraded her to my S7E.
She was saying it was too big and heavy .
We left At&t and I had to get 2 new phones.
I called her at work and ask with you Busting my Chops about a larger, heavier phone.
Do you want me to git you a little S8, or the larger S8+.
She said I've Dun got used to the larger screen.
No way do I want the smaller screen.
And I really like the battery life on the larger phone.
I got used to the weight.
Don't notice the weight any more.
It fits in my purse and back pocket. Just sticks up some.
Get me the larger phone like you are getting.

I said O.K. and bought 2 S8+ on Verizon.
She hasn't complained any more.

I ordered the 3 to replace my 2XL. The 5.5" screen used to be considered "huge". As a 54YO with not great near vision, I've needed a large screen, and the 5.5" is plenty large.

In addition, I'm finding the 2XL to be just barely manageable large, so going to a slightly smaller size will be beneficial.

The smaller battery is a slight concern, but after the battery usage improvements in P, I'm less worried about it.

A final reason for upgrading from the 2XL to the 3 is the wireless charging. I've had two 2XL's USB-C ports go flaky (my first one literally smoked and melted). If I can minimize the use of the USB port, that would undoubtedly be beneficial.

I agree
The wireless charging takes pressure and wear off always plugging it in.

100% Agree. I would also stick with the smaller version. There is a notchable improvement. Lol. I tried to hard there.

Luckily we are not giving up much with the smaller version. Google isn't like Apple and dont hoard a couple features for the more expensive version. So my vote is definitely for the smaller version. :)

This is true. The only reason I would go the XL is for when watching movies/videos and playing games, but I don't think I do that enough to have to get the larger screen.

Plus, I'm not really feeling that notchable difference

I had the same concerns, went from LG V20 to P2. There are some differences like when watching YouTube in landscape, the red dot in the seek bar is blocky not smooth but that's all I really noticed . I made the switch cause I just got tired of large phones, I had a 6P before the V20.

I say go for it, it's so refreshing going to a smaller phone. The convenience of having a smaller phone is awesome and I'm a 6'2 guy with large slim hands.

I went with the 5.5" just to try it out, since my P2 XL is fine...I'll probably give it to my daughter as its pink...she needs a smaller phone(Replacing an i6s). Not much downside as it should perform the same as the XL.

Right but then they utilized it a short time after

That's the first I'd heard of that. Besides the third party apps, I remember it being available for Google Lens, but it wasn't for the camera itself for photos IIRC. Must have missed some news.

I believe it was for the HDR+enchanced

I'll be going with the smaller Pixel because I really don't like the notch. If they allow the ability to hide it and have the notifications in the black bar, then I'd consider it, otherwise I'll go with the Pixel 3.

Yup, black 128GB through Verizon so should get a Pixel Stand as well. I originally ordered it through Google, later called to ask about the $50 credit Mike got and the rep accidentally deleted my Pixel order. Before that I was supposed to have a ship date of October 25th, and this happened 2 hrs later. So figuring my new ship date would probably be in November and Verizon's ship dates were the 18th, I went with them.

Dang I was going to call tonight about the $50.00 deal. I received the email yesterday. Now I wonder if I can wait until after my phone is delivered, Oct 22-23 and then call about it. I checked my Google store credit and it's not there. Thanks for the heads up.
