Reasons For Picking The 3 vs 3xl

Dang I was going to call tonight about the $50.00 deal. I received the email yesterday. Now I wonder if I can wait until after my phone is delivered, Oct 22-23 and then call about it. I checked my Google store credit and it's not there. Thanks for the heads up.

You don't get the 50 right away and it will probably be sent to you 4 to 6 weeks as a promo code to purchase Google stuff.

Thanks MikeD, once again. I think you mentioned this before and I just glossed over it. Well one indigo fabric case coming for me later.

Edit:. Yes I picture you as one of the Bestie Boys.

I prefer the smaller size for one had use. I also tend to rotate/ flip my phone in my hand as a habit. I have a laptop and an iPad so i don't need a bigger screen. Got the p3 5.5

XL is too big for me - but tempting. Had a P1 XL briefly.

This post was made before my trip to Best Buy and actually getting some "hands on" time with the XL. Naturally it feels bigger than the 3, but not as much bigger as I thought it would be.

Order changed to XL at the request of my old eyes and clumbsy fingers. My old wallet is still ranting and raving. Too bad wallet, you lose this round.

I'm in the same boat as you - have an iPad so wonder if the smaller size would be fine for me too. Trouble is, I don't my iPad everywhere and wonder if I would miss the larger size for watching videos.

It's a little funny seeing the Pixel3 being described as a "small phone"... I remember when the Japanese were trying to make them smaller and smaller. Everyone wanted a tiny phone, and screen size was not a priority! Amazing how things change. Now we use phones like Tablet PC's.

The notch is hideous, reason enough to get the regular. I lean towards smaller phones also because they are more pocketable yet the "smaller" phones off today still have a pretty big screen

For me personally, if I had to choose one over the other, it would definitely be the Pixel 3:

- at 5.5", it's still in my "sweet spot" for phone sizes (it's now been adjusted to anywhere between 5.0"-5.5"). I have small hands but still like to watch movies and TV shows on my phone from time to time; so these sizes make watching easy and the screen isn't too small in this case.

- hardware/appearance: It's not that I dislike the hardware of the 3 XL - I think it's an attractive phone. But I do prefer the hardware on the smaller 3. And there is no notch. I've grown to like notches more often than not - I just do not really care for this specific notch.

- after using the smaller Pixel 2 for a little over six months, I've grown really accustomed to a smaller phone and have loved doing things one-handed; and find handling a smaller phone easier than maneuvering a phablet.

I'm sure there are a few more reasons, but those are what stick out in my mind right now!

reason's to get
can get fast updates
can get 3 year's of major updates
re-sale value is better.
if you like stock android. (kind of like bare-bones)
Camera looks promising

reason not to get

I have a Google store near where I work but their stores aren't really necessary for support.

You do realise that getting the pixel 3 won't really improve viewing video since all its really doing is adding a little bit more screen on top and bellow that found on the P2.

The P2 is a 16:9 display, the P3 is 18:9, so the extra .5 of an inch won't help when viewing most video content on the web.

I look at at a P3 in store and it weirdly looks smaller compared to my P2.

Anyways I'm sticking with what I've got for the time being.

See, looking at the phone size comparison tool on PhoneArena, the 3XL is almost the same size as the Nexus 6p, which is why I went with the regular Pixel model, and it was much easier to deal with. The 3XL may only be 1/4" wider and taller, but with them stretching the screen over that of the 6p, that means I'd have to stretch further to hit the top and bottom of the screen that I did on the 6p. So, for me, I think that would exacerbate the issues I already had with the 6p. If I want a larger screen, I'll use my laptop, Nexus 7, or I'll look into picking up a Pixel Slate. But for everyday use, I need a smaller device. If nothing else, coming from a Pixel 2, I'm already getting a 1/2" bump in screen size.

What worries me about that screen size bump is the same reasoning I have for not going with the 3XL because of my experiences on the 6p. By that I mean since they've stretched the screen on the regular Pixel 3, it's going to take more reach to hit the corners on the 3 than it would on the 2. So I'm hoping that I'll be able to work with that. I'll find out when it shows up.

I'm used to small footprint of the Essential PH-1, so probably I would go with the regular Pixel 3. I would need to test both models in store to make a decision but it's not available at my country.

I'm really surprised no one is talking about the new improved vibration motor ?
