Received 7 defective Nexus 7's and Google is now refusing RMA's

Re: Received 7 defective Nexus 7's and Google is now refusing RMA

click?? mine doesn't click. nor do i care if it does or doesn't. I just push it in, and it either turns on or off the N7 or it puts it too sleep, or resumes. no click needed.

I haven't used my power button since I got the Portenzo case :p

Re: Received 7 defective Nexus 7's and Google is now refusing RMA

The click wasn't what was important, as much as it could be indicative of a hardware revision during production. I'm hoping they're fixing issues in between production runs, but swapping components doesn't always mean for the better. In this case though, I feel a button with a more positive feel would be of higher quality than not. However, haven't run into anyone reporting bad power buttons...soooooo....

It could be a revision, or it could simply be the result of various components being used during assembly. Many devices of all types are built using components with the requisite specs, but not necessarily identical sourcing/features. most of the time, the end user has no idea that one sample of a product differs slightly from another sample because of sourcing changes in components.

Think of Apple and how they source a variety of screens for one model product.

Final warning: anymore personal attacks, personal slights, or anything of that very nature--the thread will be closed and further action will be taken.

We're a community. That means we support/help each other. It doesn't mean we insult each other. If you're thinking in your head, "Man, I can really nail this guy with some sweet insult"....don't post it. It does nothing for us, the OP, for you, for anyone.

So please, knock it off. This is the last warning, I can promise you that. :)

My post want a personal attack, rather a fact.....I'm sorry if my personal opinion of being this picky is a bit unreal.

Good point. A lot of times a manufacture may simple run out of parts and need to get the sourced somewhere else. Although, didn't the first batch of iPad 2's use an LG screen? They had some defects and were switched to Sharp and/or Samsung.

I believe so. Funny, my friend and I were just talking about that today. Also, how they're not going to use any Samsung components anymore. I'm not sure if I like this "new" screen as much compared to the last one. Just not as bright with auto-brightness enabled, but it is defect free. I can fine tune the auto brightness in software anyhow.

Update: After almost a week, my Nexus 7 is still running smoothly. No denigration of quality or issues so far. Sure, it's the 11th Nexus 7 and I still have one last Nexus 7 to return, but I'm happy to have finally found one that is of sound quality, as you would expect...the first time around. I just have to throw one thing out there to anyone looking to buy a Nexus 7, do not buy from the Google Play Store. I won't go on a rant about how difficult, unresponsive and frustrating they were, but even before they dumped me as a customer for swapping out their broken tablets, they were all talk and no play. (pun intended) They promise to call, like the pretty girl you lust for, and never do. Also, I find it funny that I went through 7 broken tablets through them, with RMA after RMA being worse than the last and only had 3 defective tablets through Wal-Mart. Certainly, I wouldn't suggest that perhaps the Play Store sends other people's broken Nexus 7 returns to other customers hoping for them to settle in, but in my experience, this seemed to be the case. Buy from a retail store, they're easier to return to and much faster and understanding of issues. If it's broken or not to your satisfaction, it's only a short drive away and not a week long (or more) wait for another broken Nexus 7.

Anywho, so far, my Nexus 7 is as close to perfect as a half baked collaboration of companies that have abysmal to non existent QA and frankly don't care about serving the customer as much as hitting sales points can be. If you want something that works, buy a Samsung. If you want the Nexus 7, which should get up to the minute updates of software and all the other neat things that come with a Nexus product, along with the dirt cheap price point, hold on to your hat, expect to swap out half a dozen and buy from Wal-Mart....The More You Know *ding ding da ding*

Mr anakin I did not find you complaining in your posts but very informative. I'm on my second its near perfect (slight screen lift) compared to the first one received (random reboots, won't turn on unless it was fully charged, and the screen was super washed out).

Keeping the one I have. I but what I do find odd is after watching netflix, text in the Web browser is very grainy and auto brightness stops working. Eventually grainy text goes away and if have to toggle the display settings to kick it back in to action.

I think just to mess with you they sent 3 of your original returns to your local wally-world(where the chics are always hot) and told them to sell you those first. Man they got you good on that one. Giggiddy:)
On a serious note...... Finaaaaaaaly and enoy

Re: Received 7 defective Nexus 7's and Google is now refusing RMA

Hmmm, that's odd...I just went ahead and tested it out on my Nexus 7 and did not find the same issue. Out of curiosity, does the auto brightness work properly on your unit under normal circumstances? I would test that out by confirming that auto brightness is enabled and then go into a brightly lit room and then a dark room and vice versa and see if the screen adjusts. Also, you could try covering the light sensor with your finger and see if it adjusts. It sounds like the brightness is getting raised when you're using Netflix (which did not happen on my tablet) and then is staying in the high brightness state and everything is appearing to be over exposed.

Congratulations. :)

And my first one, purchased about a month ago from Staples has been absolutely perfect so far. Zero complaints. Guess I got lucky.

You're lucky that Google gave you 7 chances. I would have laughed in your face after 3 exchanges and I would have told you to go be unrealistic somewhere else because you are obviously impossible to please.

7 times! are you out of your mind? With that kind of patience you're either extremely stubborn or sick. If i were you i would request my money back on the second try and visit local store that sells those or buy another tablet.. Tab 2 for example

Reminds me of a time I was walking a trade show and saw a vendor telling a customer, "do me a favor, don't buy from us anymore!".

Given the economic climate of our country. I wonder if that vendor is still in business.

Be unrealistic somewhere else huh? Haha, perhaps it is the person who doesn't read the growing forums filled with complaints about the Nexus 7's build quality who is being unrealistic or just ignoring reality. You claim I am unable to be pleased, in spite of my post that I found a working one to my satisfaction, so if you missed that, maybe you missed all the posts about the the Nexus 7's terrible build quality and lack of quality assurance.

I won't be buying a Tab 2, since it doesn't have the power of the Nexus 7 and also updates will take forever. I was neither stubborn or sick, but determined to get what was advertised without defects. I'm not sure if you have a Nexus 7 or not, but again, when a product is flawed, it's the manufacturers burden of rectifying it. Perhaps if more people exercised their right as a consumer to send broken products back to apathetic companies, they wouldn't ship broken in the box products so often.

I have this issue too. I'm assuming it's software, not hardware. Mine went away after rotating the device to force a redraw.

I've said it before, but, either way, I think I can say it again. I personally appreciate customers who are willing to not settle for pieces of garbage. Companies, whether they are Google, Asus, Samsung, Motorola, or LG need to make sure that the products they are releasing are as perfect as is humanly possible. It doesn't matter what the price or cost of the device is. When we pull them out of the box, they should be near perfect.

If your device was a year or two old, I might hold a different opinion on the problems you have experienced. But, the simple fact of the matter is, you purchased a new device. At least in my opinion, you should not have experienced the problems you were experiencing, not when you purchased a brand new device.

I'm also appreciative of those who have posted pictures of some of these types of problems. It is good to know what it looks like when there are problems such as screen lift.

Hope you guys don't take this the wrong way, but you really bring a negative tone to these forums. You really make it unenjoyable to participate in any thread you are involved in. Why be like that? What do you have to gain? If you have nothing constructive to add, please move on so the rest of us do not have to read your trash.
