I do find it funny that they can't put out a tablet that isn't flawed. I also find it funny that Google will take back every one of their broken tablets through retail channels, where they'll lose more money than exchanging the N7's themselves, after cutting me off. But the thread is not a joke.

Your right, the next thing that is going to happen is Google is going to activate the super secret wipe out command to his Android phone so that his phone is bricked.

I know exactly how that haha made you feel. I myself usually cringe when I see that or LOL in posts that are supposed to be taken seriously. Something about that just brings the content down.
I initially stood behind your decision to take back as many N7 as you wanted since what you do doesnt affect me in the least bit. But based on your own words, it appears you like playing this back and forth game.
You are the one that keeps pointing out Google can't put out a tablet that's not flawed yet you keep running around buying this same flawed tablet.
Eventually one runs out of time, patience or both. Not trying to flame you but it's starting to seem to me that this quest to find Google so wrong is fueling you with adrenaline.
Most tech junkies or people who have to have the latest know the risk of being an early adopter; but at this point, you're no longer an early adopter; neither is anyone else buying now. When does enough become enough for you? Based on all your defective units, you'd have to get ALL the parts and build it yourself for it to be defective free.

Maybe you should just hold out for the 3G model. I'm sure by then Google/Asus will have all the defects and QA issues worked out (I would hope).

I'm hardly getting kicks being frustrated with money I've spent. Also, after being jerked around by Google and told to take a hike, I do find it funny that they're taking back stacks of their product through a channel which costs them more money. They didn't stop me from being a customer and exercising my right to receive the product that I paid for without defects.
However, I just got a C8 at Walmart and it appears to be near flawless. Very minor light bleeding at the top of the screen, which is acceptable. It also appears that the C8s are either calibrated differently than the C6's and C7's or are a completely different LCD panel. The C6/7's have a cool push to the screen which creates the illusion of brighter whites. The two C8's I've seen have a warmer push, but is not warm...just in comparison to the C6/7. The contrast appears to be better on these units and white reproduction is more accurate, though doesn't "pop" like the units with the cooler push.
Though, I still had one C8 with a lot of light bleed, the one I picked up today appears to be built better than previous samples. Also, on both C8's, the power button had more of a positive click when depressed, instead of a squishy feeling. I haven't opened any units, but I suspect that the C8's have swapped out components to address build issues in the previous production runs. I wouldn't say that the C8's are perfect or would guarantee that you will have a less flawed unit, but if you are going to buy a N7, I would suggest taking the chance on the C8.
I'll be using the crap out of the tablet today and over the week and will let you know how it works out. I'm pretty optimistic at first brush. Had I received a unit built to this quality initially, I never would have had to swap out so many units. In the end, shame on Google.

That's good news; now maybe you can finally enjoy the Nexus for what it is: a great little tablet. About the power button; this happened on my BlackBerry PlayBook. The first one I had, the power button was incredibly hard to push. I used to have to use an object, like a pen, sometimes to push it. 4 Months later I had to purchase 900 of them (large scale app for a big company) and the power button was soft and subtle; a thing of beauty.
So I don't think it's unheard of to use different parts as the manufacturing process matures. I'm glad you got a working unit.

Very possible. I know phones sometimes take on that squishy feeling in the power button. I never had one that felt that way from the start--usually over time or a refurb.

Sounds like you are far too picky, you can't see the light bleed unless you are using tests. Sack up and enjoy a great device at basement bargain price.
I think you would be better off with the fire for 200.....then you will have something to cry about.

It wasn't that the power button didn't work...it did. It's that the new ones have a pronounced click when depressed which was absent on the older ones. Just played some games and watched some YouTube. This thing seems pretty solid. Hopefully, I can stop cursing at the TV when Nexus 7 commercials play.

There are some good points if you read between the junk posts.
The best debate is weather or not you should expect (and live with) a "not so perfect" device just because it costs less. I'm on the side of I don't care how much it costs, it should not come with defects. Others find minor imperfections tolerable. Others think you should just expect the thing to be poorly made because of the price.
The other debate is how much one would go through searching for a "perfect" working N7.
So there is some good conversation going on here, you just need to ignore the junk. This thread would only be a few pages long if that were the case.

click?? mine doesn't click. nor do i care if it does or doesn't. I just push it in, and it either turns on or off the N7 or it puts it too sleep, or resumes. no click needed.It wasn't that the power button didn't work...it did. The click wasn't what was important, as much as it could be indicative of a hardware revision during production. I'm hoping they're fixing issues in between production runs, but swapping components doesn't always mean for the better. In this case though, I feel a button with a more positive feel would be of higher quality than not. However, haven't run into anyone reporting bad power buttons...soooooo....
