Received G5. Battery looks to be pretty bad

THIS...... I have seen a review placing the battery life around 3.5 hours of SOT which is exactly where I expected it to be.

8 SOT on a 2800 Mah battery lulz

I smell Bull**** 9 hours SOT... Show us the statistics of the phone using another phone and include the apps usage

People.... If this phone got 8-9 hours of SOT with no effort or attempt to save battery life it would be all over the tech news. Not to mention LG would tout that as a major feature. Everyone relax. It's a normal phone with normal abilities. 😎

And here's the graph..don't think I even had a proper doze last night

This is really easy to explain. The pics showing 8+ hours of SOT are generated by leaving the phone on the lowest brightness setting and just leaving the screen on all day. Then, that picture showing the ridiculous amount of SOT, is paired with the other pictures which are captured during a normal day of usage. Every year when new phones are released there will be someone doing this..

That's probably what it is. If that was legit result, we should be seeing this all over the place.
But pulling 5+ hrs of SoT seems not so hard with G5 based on reviews so far. That's pretty good to me.

People need to chill. If he got 9hrs of SOT so be it. Me personally, I don't care if he did or not. Because no matter what we all use our phones differently. Maybe people don't believe him because they don't think any phone out there can get better battery life than the phone or manufacture they like or maybe it's because some people ended up getting a Galaxy device and is hating because it's another phone getting better battery life then their phone.

And for people posting pics or making comments that their S7 Edge is getting better life, well it should! It has a way bigger battery than the G5. What people should do is compare the G5's battery to the S7 battery. I have both and for me, both my s7 and g5 battery life is on par with one another. when I get off work, I normally have between 20% and 25% battery left on my S7. Currently I'm at 50% on my G5. I'm sure it will be at or near the 20% - 25% range when I get ready to leave work.

One thing the G5 has going for it, is it charges a lot faster than my S7.

And just because something isn't reported in the so called tech news, doesn't mean it's not true. Half of the stuff these tech sites post is rumors or news that people informed them about.

I think that there's a misunderstanding here. No one has an issue with anyone having 35 hours of screen on time even, it's when you report it like it's the norm, it's not. Some of us....scratch that, all of us here have some kind of interest in the G5 otherwise we wouldn't be here to begin with. We monitor how the device works, if there's any issues...things of that nature before purchasing the device. When someone is amongst the first here to post battery stats and posts out of the norm battery stats like it's a fact, of course we're going to question it. If he is Pleased with his battery life then it's absolutely awesome, but making it sound like it's a fact that the G5 gets that kind of battery life when many reviews and users have reported otherwise, is borderline misleading.

How is it that one person gets that kind of battery life then everyone else gets something more "reasonable" like here?:

I understand your point and its a good one at that.

However no matter what someone's battery stats may be, I would think it'd be hard to duplicate because everyone use their devices differently. That's why I personally stated that I didn't care if he did or didn't. But if he didnt, he need to come out and state so.

I know my battery stats haven't been nowhere near what he's reporting and ill leave that there...lol

It's like the same exact post for every new phone. 3 to 4 days from now it will be like "Now my battery is fine. I seem to be getting xx hours of on screen time".

I think you guys give LG too much credit.
How many phones have any of you received and have drained it while setting it up?

At 8:11 it was 15% so I threw it on the charger.
In 15 minutes it was 50%.
In 30 minutes it was 73%.
In 1 hour it was 95

The phone was on at this time.

Umm, every phone I've ever had. Of course it will drain while setting it up. You're constantly interacting with the device (swiping, typing), the display is usually on while doing so, and the radios are running syncing accounts, downloading apps, etc. It's similar to a car, will your gas tank drain more quickly idling or driving down the road? Now if your phone was just sitting there not doing anything, than it'd be cause for concern.

I've always known that my phone will take a huge hit on battery life while setting it up. I usually charge mine to full before I even power it on, and then start setting it up. After a couple hours of setting everything just how I want it, it's not out of the ordinary to have around 70% remaining. Plus with MM, Doze will take a few days to learn your habits. Whenever I get a new device, I always wait until about a week in to see what my battery life is like. That gives it a few charge cycles to settle in. The first few days of learning the device and finding the new features means that you'll be using it much more than you normally would, and that will be apparent in the battery life you get.

OK, I'm finally able to post again!!

To settle the controversy over my experience with the LG G5... I've taken the time to post a video on YouTube.

It takes too much time to post a million pics and all that mess.

Please watch, and let me know what else I can do to help ease everyone's mind!! Again, alllllll mileage will very.

Hey man! Good video ... Some folks here are too much alike Debbie-Downer ... Way too much butthurt over statistics ... Good lord ... Well, i'm geek/nerd/whatever too but i use my own intellect to decide what is right purchase for me or what is not ...

I guess what i'm saying is do not pay attention what these Debbie-Downer say ... They gonna hold you accountable for their future purchase of LG G5 :) and gonna blame you if something doesn't come right ... Enjoy your device and post some more of those SOT screen shots ...

Seems legit man. It's good that you get that much out of the battery.

Nice work. Good to have you back. I was wondering what happened to you.

I'm a mechanic... so I can't help but try to figure out the "why" of it. For me, I believe it's lithium ion power supply in LG G5 vs Li-po power supplies in most other phones.

From what I understand, li po has a main advantage of form factor.... so it's easier to fit into a small package.

Li ion has a main advantage of power density!?!?! It's very tough to kill the LG G5 battery. Meaning it take effort from a full charge to finish it...

G3/G4... My wife's s4 and s6 edge .. I've done just the opposite.... ive tried to keep the battery alive in them... which really does suuuuck.

My real reason for posting was to let those who couldn't decide... or that were spec chasers like me... know that there is more to the 2800mah battery LG has than meets the eye.

Both running 820... Both have done whatever they can to stretch battery life. So how can 2800 keep up with 3600. I'll take lithium ion vs Li-po for my answer. Itll come out sooner or later... then they'll say "Ohhh man, good ol Unicorn Guy really wasn't full of it!!!!!?!?!?!!" Lol!!!

But your case is different, cause again I just checked the G5 forum on xda, their battery life thread, and ppl are complaining about the battery life. So it's so weird that we get on one side you and a few ppl who are pleased with battery life and then on the other side, ppl who can't last a day. It's very unusual.
