Received G5. Battery looks to be pretty bad

I had a little easier decision ... BB had it for $99 with 2 year extension...
Just the charging cradle and battery for freebies though... No 360 cam!!

With the battery life I'm seeing, a second battery, and me being a power user(my cell is my office)... Just off of that alone... I'd pay full price for it in a heartbeat bro!!!

The screen is better than my wife's S6 edge(she agreed)... both brighter and more realistic in its color representation...

Haven't played with the camera much yet.... but I did just finish with the headphones. I was concerned on the sound quality issues ID read about online. Especially with your v10 having the built in sabre amp/DAC.... I only had stock sammy earbuds to test with, but volume was there... even a little bass. I have a pretty insane theater in my home... So I do have a pretty good idea of what clear, accurate, sound should be. Not that the g5 and Sammy buds are a killer combo by any means at all... but there was enough sound and it was decent enough to my ears that I'm going to grab some IEM's to see what's really going on!?! I do know it has aptxhd and supports 24bit playback via Bluetooth. Which even streaming Spotify sounds pretty awesome on my theater.

Definitely not trying to sell you on it... but more than happy to share any info I can to help you be able to decide what's best for you!?(your girl)

Almeuit,

Sure!! I don't know how to do it other than to post one pic at a time!! But here you go!!! I'm around 5.5 SOT at the moment... 40% battery left. I tried to get all the programs that are running in one pic too... I'm thinking that's what you want to see.

Something's not right here. There's just no way a 2800 mAh battery on a phone with a 5.3" QHD display will get 5h 22m 11s of SoT. Not one reviewer from the many websites that have reviewed or commented on the phone--Android Police, Droid Life, GSMArena, or CNET--have gotten anywhere near that time. The average from those three sites is 3 hours SoT (on cellular) to 4 hours (on wi-fi only). The only way this could happen is if you have your brightness less than 10%.

I remain skeptical on these times.

Edit: GSM Arena reports the Always-On Display on the G5 kills the battery so much quicker, which makes me very skeptical of the G5 getting over 5 hours SoT.

I'm so very sorry to hear you're not wanting to believe it. I am posting pics to show you!!! I'm not sure what else I can do.

I'm currently going to see 7-8hrs of SOT and that's only on its second charge. I have pics of all programs running. There is at least one review that mentions a 6hr SOT.

I'm not gaming, or downloading torrents.... but I am continuously(within reason) on the phone ... Literally putting an effort into discharging the battery under what should be normal conditions.

Actually, I'm not sure any of us will want to stare at our screens for 8 hrs in a day... lol!!!

There has definitely been some serious changes since the g4... that is for definite. I had it earlier this year for $1... and got stuck with whether to upgrade or not. Ultimately it was the g4 battery life that I coudlnt live with. That phone I turned everything off.... Even put brightness to 20% and nothing would make it last more than 3-4 hrs...

This phone is easily double the battery life of the G4 ... I am using lte data... Fingerprint scanner isn't set up(I'm sure that sensor being awake at all times would be a drain). I have wifi off as well. I have been using Bluetooth to stream music to my receiver.

The difference between this drain and my first... is I'm not downloading benchmarks and running them this time. I'm certain that cost me 20% on the first drain and it still gave 6hrs 19 mins I think it was....

These are numbers... plain for all to see. I wouldn't waste my time or yours making things up... I promise. I'm only here to share my personal experience, and what should be a similar experience for others .... considering my nearly constant use of the handset.

Again, once the initial stages of getting a new phone wear off.... I see no reason why anyone can't make it through a day with a single charge. I'm sure gaming, and torrents could drastically shorten the SOT I'm getting. I however, am not a gamer... and I have no issues with Vuze hogging up some juice if I want to see a new flic.

Just a thought on the reviews battery life discrepancies... Those were more than likely international version of the handsets. I would imagine a radio that's constantly trying to find signal could also significantly decrease battery life!?!?!?

Im at 6 hours and 3 mins screen on time with my brightness at 50 % and I have 32% battery left.I am loving it!

Always on display and the auto brightness are both able to dim and brighten automatically depending on the amount of light in the surrounding environment. The always on display will actually sleep, if you cover the top of the screen(put in pocket or flip phone).

I've got to be getting close to 7 hrs SOT at the moment!!! Here is a pic!!! I will also post another set of pics at the conclusion of this battery drain. I'm sure it will be 8 hrs of SOT, and because of that... it will most likely be the am before I can finish off the drain. I may stay up and try... but feeling tired as I'm typing this. 28% more to go.. looks like I'm at 6 hrs 42 mins...

I'm now at 7 hrs SOT with 25% left to go.... I'm def going to see 8hrs SOT using pure data... zero wifi!!! I promise when I complete the fill drain I will post pics of the full drain and programs running... as I've been doing all day!!!

I do not blame any of you for doubting these numbers!!! If I wasn't holding the handset and seeing it for myself... I'd have a hard time believing it too. Actually, I am holding the handset and I can't believe I am actually going to see 8 hrs SOT but I am!!!!!!

I got the lg g2 in December 2013... waaaay before it was cool... off of pure specs!! I remember the manager at BB saying "no one is going to buy that POS!!" Lol..

I couldn't replace it with g3 or g4 because the battery drain of qhd vs 1080p combined with minimal performance increase just didn't justify it. This g5... Is fiiiiinally the phone the g3 should have been!!! Wooooooo hooooooooo!!!!!!

I'm very proud to post its been an exhausting adventure!!! Im just about down to 5% on this second battery drain. I have officially reached 8.5hrs SOT!!!!! Pics will be posted as the numbers can not create themselves!!!!!

Again, the following drain is using sprints LTE data the entire time... zero wifi. Spotify via Bluetooth and headphones. Surfing. Android Centraling it. No finger print sensor. No gaming. Always on display "ON", Auto brightness "ON". Other than that, no real effort to conserve energy... and I've obviously looked at the screen for about as long as I can stand it!!!!

Not bad. It looks like you have a good LTE signal. A good LTE signal is just as good as a wifi signal so the drain seems normal :).

Hey Almeuit!!! Thanks for joining them together!!! I'm so deep into it now I can't give up!! I'm going to see if it will hit 9 hrs before it dies!!

I'm glad to hear that LTE and wifi are close in eficiency!!

For whatever the reason was, I never got more than 3-4 hours SOT out of G4 on the very same LTE.

I'm super happy with what I've seen so far!! I sure hope this helps others who may be worried about the 2800mah ... to rest easy!!!

Haha so your basing battery on setup battery life from 50% with no charge while tons of apps are syncing and ylyoi are downloading and installing apps and accounts.

Give it time to download all your emails and sync account and day after to get any idea of what it will really be.

Pretty much this. GF got the s7 edge, which was at 54 percent and by the time, she got done reinstalling apps, resyncing stuff and accounts it was blinking red. This is normal for any smartphone now days. Need 3 full recharge/discharge cycles or roughly a week, for it to settle.

Thanks for sharing all this. I don't know man, I'm skeptical even though you post3d the pics. 8 1/2 of screen on time on 100% LTE with that battery size when it seems that the majority is getting sub-par battery life....but you may be right too but I don't know man. I'm questioning your usage not the stats them selves.

No worries at all bro!! I think I typed somewhere in there last night that. If so I wasn't holding the handset myself, and seeing the results for myself... in all honesty ID be skeptical too.

I can assure you... I'm in no way, shape, or form trying mislead anyone!!! I'm hoping others will see the thread... and hopefully we will start to see many more of the same kinds of numbers. I know for sure someone else posted last night that they were over 6hrs SOT with 30% or so left....

The numbers I've provided are as accurate as I can present them!!! I'm sure mileage will vary depending on usage. I tried to be as straight forward as possible.

I do not use finger print scanner, no wifi, no location. Other than those three things being off... everything other than apps I can disable or hide... is stock!! Auto brightness, and always on are both on. Also, it was 4 am towards the end of my test last night... so for sure auto brightness was low(it always changes.. so didn't keep track). If I had to give you an average of the brightness level throughout the drain... I'd say it was probably around 30-40% brightness. Sometimes full blast from being outside, most of the time 30-50% indoors, ect.

If you haven't already grabbed one, I definitely think its worth grabbing and seeing if you can pull some similar numbers yourself!!!

I'd say an average of 6-7hrs SOT will become the norm for this handset. Less power hungry users than myself... could see close to 2 days under more normal use. As I really don't see the average user staring at the screen for more than 3-4 hrs a day after the initial "newness" wears off!!!

Hey man! Do you have configured Exchange account on your device? I'm asking this because on my G5 this service (com.lge.ia.task.informant) is trashing my battery (which i think is related to com.lge.exchange). I do not have any apps installed, location off, auto brightness and my battery lasts ~10-12 hours with only ~50 min screen on time. I'm barely touching the phone. Did a factory reset which didn't help. Disabled all ATT apps that can be disabled and bunch of google apps.
