Received G5. Battery looks to be pretty bad

Thanks for sharing all this. I don't know man, I'm skeptical even though you post3d the pics. 8 1/2 of screen on time on 100% LTE with that battery size when it seems that the majority is getting sub-par battery life....but you may be right too but I don't know man. I'm questioning your usage not the stats them selves.

I'm highly skeptical too. There is no way a 2800 mAh battery powering an SD 820 and a 5.3" QHD screen will give a phone almost 9 hours SoT. Just no way at all. Android Police has even said the G5 doesn't throttle the SD 820 at all, which uses up a ton of battery power: LG G5 Review: A Bit Of A Mess, Frankly Unless all wifi and cellular service is turned off. And the screen is down to 10% (or less) brightness. Nobody else is reporting that kind of screen on time. I'm getting 5.5 hours on my S7 edge, and that battery is almost 1,000 mAh larger than the G5's battery.

Yeah. When you factor everything in, the battery size, display resolution, reviews, most users here....it's hard to believe. But then again he did post the stats and they seem to be legit. But something must be off here cause 9 hours of screen on time is for phones that have big batteries like the S7 edge, and even that is for the exynos version. I get outstanding battery life on my regular S7 exynos version, at least 6 hours of screen on time but no way I can push it to 8 hours let alone 9. So something is not usual here.

Since I started this thread I figured I'd post an update. It may get lost in the the other responses but I'l do it anyway.
I've been using the phone a few days and mostly at work. I activated the always-on-screen and forced myself NOT to turn the screen on unless I had messages coming in.

Battery life is more reasonable for my daily life and yes you guys are right on the 1st day downloading of apps and setting up of accounts etc.
I worked mostly on my laptop the past few days so most of my day was not really using my phone unless I was walking around or in meetings.

I do still have some concerns about things like work-travel when I rely solely on my phone while at waiting for planes, layovers, taxi rides, etc where I will have my screen on for a large majority of the day. Given my 1st day experiences I am eagerly awaiting my spare battery and charger.

Again, I completely understand the skepticism... but I can absolutely assure you all that these are numbers are indeed real... 1000% un altered.

I sure hope others will be able to back me up... as I have no reason or means to gain anything ... by investing so much time in trying to provide you guys with proof of my experiences to date with this handset.

I am not a developer by any means... and wouldn't have the first idea on how to modify things to make my results any different than anyone elses!!

Just not sure what else I can do to convince you guys/gals!?!?

I'm sure as others start to chime in... similar results will be posted!!!

I checked online last night about what could make such a huge difference... As my wife's handset(s6 edge) barely gets 2-3hrs of SOT... Using its exynos processor. G5 has li ion battery vs li po that is in all other handsets!?! Not sure if there is any truth to it or not... but from what I briefly read... li ion is more power dense than li po!?!

I know that's way out there.... but regardless of the why... and how..
the reality IS I pulled juuuust under 9hrs of SOT just yesterday... On the devices second full charge.

Hey man! Do you have configured Exchange account on your device? I'm asking this because on my G5 this service (com.lge.ia.task.informant) is trashing my battery (which i think is related to com.lge.exchange). I do not have any apps installed, location off, auto brightness and my battery lasts ~10-12 hours with only ~50 min screen on time. I'm barely touching the phone. Did a factory reset which didn't help. Disabled all ATT apps that can be disabled and bunch of google apps.

Hey!! No, exchange account is not set up in my device. I do have an Yahoo email, and a Gmail account that sync in the background.

If your battery life is incredibly poor.. you may want to consider a device swap!?! If it continues with the second device... I'd bet it's either the program your suggesting... or a radio that can't lock on to a solid signal. Pure guessing on my part though!?!?

Hey Underwhere,

Apologies for drowning your thread with posts... I promise I only meant to help!!

I'm happy to hear things are settling in for you!!! For travel, you will always have your second battery to swap out!! It seems the g5 battery life is making some s7 edge owners a little **** hurt that their 3600 Li-po can't keep up!!! Still not sure if li-po vs li ion density may be playing a part in it. Not to mention, LG stuck with qualcom last year when sammy dumped them. Maybe Qualcomm and LG optimizations weren't just marketing after all!?!?!

I do have to admit I find a good bit of pleasure in that.... as I've always been one for the under dog... never the one for the bully!!!!

Hey man! It is my third day with the device ... The device decided to behave ... Whatever it was with this com.lge.ia.task.informant, it is gone now ... Maybe my exchange account was being indexed and took a little bit of time (me just guessing; stabbing in dark). Right now is at 98% battery with 6h27min since i unplugged it from the charger. 17min of screen on time ... Kind of makes it ~0.5% drop per hour in stand by which is not too bad. I'll give it few more cycles before i decide if i'm going to keep it or not ... Liking the design so far ...

Thanks for replying ...

I'll back you up but I'm not into timing everything. All I know is that my droid maxx had a larger battery and the G5 beats it.

So we've confirmed that the battery lasts a while when you're not doing anything other than keeping the screen lit up.

Screen on time is a completely useless metric for anything other than determining how long the screen has been on.

Thanks for the update bud. So now what's your battery life like? At what time do you usually unplug and what time do you plug it back in? How many hours off charge and screen on time? Thanks in advance@

I stated the nearly 9hrs of SOT was off of a single discharge, as well as mentioned being either on Google doing research, the forum posting, watching you tube videos, ect... on top of streaming spotify via headphones and via Bluetooth to my theater for many hours as well. I didn't just turn on the screen and let the phone sit idle... I apologize if somehow that's what you understood.

I provided pictures of what I was trying to show... with the discharge graph, apps that had the most usage, ect. For sure the QHD LCD display eats a tremendous percentage compared to the others.... it wouldn't be a valid result if I tried to state otherwise.

While you have provided us with a picture... you could easily have charged at anytime in between for example.

Let me post one more set of stats. My phone exactly as it is now... without me having any idea at all I'd be posting another round of pics.

I'm clearly not "trying" to conserve battery... yet I'm over 3 hrs SOT already at just under 65% discharge... At this rate.. the math is showing a strong 8.. possibly 9hrs of SOT.

I don't know about the s7/7edge... Bit I have first hand experience with g2/g3/g4... S/4/6/6edge.... I challenge anyone who owns those devices to show me the same info I've provided... I mean if it's so easy to see these kinds of SOT!!! Lol!!!

G5 has made dramatic improvements on g4 battery life... Period. Smaller or not, it is the best battery life I personally have ever seen on a handset I've owned. I can not wait for some serious pro reviews to come out and repeat these words!!!

Maybe the always on display is being counted in that screen "on" time because that's a little absurd for any phone honestly especially with that small of a battery(2800mah) and after the whole plastic bodygate fiasco lol..I wouldn't put that "trick" pass them..I have s7 edge with what id consider good batt with bout 6 and a half hours SoT with 2 days on battery from full charge and AOD on the whole time..maybe Your G5 is a unicorn or something..

There is no magic... no unicorns... Just real life usage and a real life 9hrs SOT!!!! Im sorry the edge isn't giving the same results..

I was torn up on whether to pre order the galaxy or wait for g5. It was a hard choice to wait. But seeing the SOT has made me extremely happy I chose to wait!!

5.5-6 hrs of SOT is still better than I got off of g4 or Galaxy s6 edge. So your s7 edged is definitely no slouch!!! But I do feel your pain on seeing this results on a much smaller capacity power supply. I really really think it has to do with g5 having li ion supply vs li po of the galaxy series.
