Received the Essential Phone ask your questions

so far I have had issues with the cellular signal twice. this morning it's wifi or nothing. I have restarted the phone twice....puzzled

Are you having any of the issues the other guy was having on Verizon such as not being able to make or receive calls?

Hi!

I upgrade July next year, and I'm REALLY adamant of buying a stock- android phone. Since I won't be able to afford phones that come out in 2018, I'll be getting a phone from this year instead.

My options will be the Oneplus 5, Google Pixel 2 and maybe the Essential Phone Or HTC U11 (I can accept HTC's skin over android).

I'll be getting the phone on a 2 year old but if bezel less phones become the new standard I don't want my phone to look outdated by 2018-2020. So I'm swaying towards the Essential Phone, but I've heard the camera is mediocre at best. What would you do in my situation?

Thanks buddy!

Pixel XL phone is a great phone fast Snappy pure Android, the Essential phone is also a nice phone bezel-less phone, so if it was me being that I've had the Galaxy S8 plus I'm not going back to a big bezel phone. If you don't care about having big bezels then I would wait for the Pixel XL 2

The Pixel 2 XL doesn't have big bezels.

The Pixel XL 2 will be pretty much bezel-less too. The smaller Pixel will still have huge bezels though

Do you think this phone fit the name"Essential"? Have you found some issues when using it?

I received the phone yesterday and I will be returning it. The camera is not reliable enough for me. The screen is average and the radio is under powered compared to my current phone. I really wanted to go with a stock phone and support a new player in the space but there are too many compromises with this phone. I will be getting a Pixel XL 2.

I really haven't found much to complain about. I would like to see more apps use all of the screen. There is no perfect phone and not everyone will like the Essential phone. Different strokes...

I agree with others that software updates are needed for the camera. I haven't been able to test out the camera yet but do see a bit of lag with it. I think they need a few weeks to get over the roll-out disaster and then we will see some improvements to software. I hope they are hard at work getting the oreo update in place as well.

Can you add some context to this please?

Out of the box it has 20+ preffered networks and I set the the first option, being on Verizon anytime I was on WiFi it would kill my network connection and I would have to reboot the phone to get it to work. Speed tests were atrocious and so I have changed it to Global and that has seemed to fix my problem so far.

Need to move to TMobile, waiting to see what they announce on the 6th 😊

Chuck, what happens if you go into Developer Options and change the setting called Cellular Data always active?

I don't have my phone yet but I'm curious to see if that would fix your issue with WiFi/LTE

I love the look and feel of the Essential Phone. Yes the camera needs work and the screen responsiveness needs a little improvement of which I think software updates can help in both areas. I haven't had any issues with WiFi nor cellular, note I'm on the T-MOBILE network. The speaker is loud and good enough for me as I don't really use my phone to play music. I do hope more apps are updated to take advantage of the bezel-less top of the phone.
