Reception and Call Quality?

mviars: What phone did you have before this G2? I assume it didn't do this. I'm trying to rule out strictly a verizon network problem with 4G phones or anything like that under certain conditions.

Thank you for confirming I am not the only one! I managed to reproduce this in a verizon store and a salesperson and manager heard it. They both said they never heard that sound before on any other phone on their network and were confused. They called an LG rep who is going to come look at my returned phone next week. I am on my third LG G2 with this problem and it's still happening. I am in contact with tech support and tomorrow the Verizon network team is going to analyze some calls I made with the problem, somehow. I'm not sure what they're going to discover, if anything.

I may end up switching to the Moto X and hoping that's better. I wasn't sure if I have some weird issue with being on 4G network where I use the phone but it doesn't make sense to me that my 3G fascinate works fine for voice in same areas.

By the way, my second G2 phone which I only had for a few hours, started overheating (see LG gets hot threads). Oh, and this third phone also has the other odd issue of doing high pitch buzz in-between my spoken words which is only heard by some phones or answering machines. The display unit in the verizon store does this too.
It's fascinating that all three of the devices you got had this problem. Just from the information you provided, the issue has got to be between the G2 radio and the towers you use. 3 on a row? That's a bit much to label chance occurrences.
Man, I hope Verizon figures this out for you because I can only imagine how aggravating this is.

I was using a used thunderbolt until the G2 came out. no problems. Also other friends have verizon with no problems. seems to be an issue with a few G2 if you ask me. It is happening quite frequently and is REALLY annoying.

It is not Verizon specific. I had an iPhone 4S on ATT, exchanged it 2 times, and tried others. They all did the same, at random. The original Moto Razor on ATT had this problem. Every cell phone has the potential to have this problem, if not designed correctly. You have a bunch of electronics packed into a small area that are sending and receiving data. Ever hear crazy noises coming out of nearby speakers when your cell phone rings or data is transmitted? Well, the same thing can happen in the internal speaker(s) on your phone, if the noise suppression, shielding, etc. are not just right.

Just noticed that it seemed to clear up when in a different area so probably a different cell tower and now that I am back in the office my problem has returned. seems this phone has a problem with some cell towers.

I am glad to hear people reporting better call quality than with the S4. I have the S4 and get tons of complaints when at the house. I got rid of the HTC One due to an update ruining my call quality. Hopefully third time is the charm.
